Topic: Open Smart Tag available in the USA

Hello

On the US Website of XYZPrinting the "Open Smart Tag" ist available since May 13th. Here in Europe nothing changed since months :-(

On Amazon I found this Product as a simple Paper NFC Chip (See Picture). Is their a way to reprogram an normal NFC Chip?
http://soliforum.com/i/?zXLL3Xd.jpg

On a UK Site I found the following note:

Turn your NFC compatible XYZprinting 3D printer to an Open filament printer and use other brands of filament
The Da Vinci Open Smart Tag allows you to turn your NFC tag compatible XYZ printing 3D printer into an Open filament printer. It will increase the versatility of your printer by allowing you to use filaments from different brands.

NOTE: Due to Exceptionally high demand, this item is on back order. The preliminary date for new stock is the second week of May

Steps for installing the Smart Tag

Install the smart tag on to the filament spool or on your filament spool holder
Update your XYZprint to the latest version
go to Dashboard > Filament to register the smart tag
You will only require one smart tag per printer.

Note that XYZ smart tag becomes registered with a particular print so it cannot be moved between printers. Also the smart tag will not enable you to print with materials that are not compatible with the specifications of your printer. For example, you will not be able to start printing with Nylon if your printer was not able to print with this material in the first place as you will not necessarily be able to get the extruder temperature up to the temperature required for Nylon. You must also still use CPLA to print in colour on the Da Vinci color range.

What will be the next step?

Wo will be the first wo can help me? XYZPrinting wo will ship the "Open Smart Tag" here in Europe, or a clever hacker who change the parameter of the NFC Chips which will probably costs € 1-5 for the material und some Bucks for the KnowHow-Transfer?

The Hacks describe there works in another way!

There are other hacks. One is an app supplied here that allows you to program blank NFC tags to act like a new spool.
There is also an NFC emulator that can be programmed over and over again information supplied here.

Re: Open Smart Tag available in the USA

I just received my open smart tag and it works as expected.
It keeps coming back into stock, use a website tracker - visual ping or something like that to be notified when it's in stock - that's what I did.

@cgrillo; Now that you've used both, would you recommend the SmartTag over the paper tags?

Re: Open Smart Tag available in the USA

Yes and No.
I just wanted to see how it would work so bought one.
The password and pack are not the same as the standard tags and I couldn't be bothered connecting the logic sniffer back up to see what the password is..

Paper Tags still work fine though although you need one per filament temperature - but I have no use for them now.

I print more on my Tevo Tarantula now and so the XYZ is not used as much as it could be

Re: Open Smart Tag available in the USA

Hello,

I would like to buy an open smart tag.
I have some questions before I buy;
1-Can I use any PLA filament that I want?
2-Is there any length limitation of the filament?
3-Can I reset length by myself easily on the software?
Overall, I don't want to have any PLA filament issues like length, brand, etc.
Will this tag solve all filament problems?

Best regards,
