Topic: Power Connection for Filastruder

I'm assembling my Filastruder and I'm wiring it up at the moment, but I can't figure out how to determine what the positive and negative wires are for the power supply. I haven't cut it yet, and the instructions aren't clear.

Are the wires inside the power supply cable labeled or am I missing something?

What’s your serial number?

Sorry for the delay. I'm having trouble finding the sticker. I wasn't going to put it on until it was all together. It was 4 thousand 2 hundred. I'm still looking.

Then you shouldn't be cutting the end of the power supply, and the way to check positive or negative is with a multimeter?

Re: Power Connection for Filastruder

I don't have a multimeter. Do I have to solder the wires to the end of the connection?

Re: Power Connection for Filastruder

I'm guessing I'm on my own at this point? Cause the only thing I can figure is I'm actually missing a part, which I wouldn't be surprised about considering my Filawinder came with a missing part.

Bill
do not be so quick to throw in the towel. Tim (elormet)  is a busy man running a business. And may have a full time job as well. It may take a couple days for him to respond here.
IMHO it is generally assumed that these kits be assembled by experienced electrical/electronics DIYers.
therefore the newbie has a few things to learn along the way.
If you are truly missing parts please contact Tm via his web site and put in a request.
there are many ways of making sound electrical connections. I expect a crimp on spade connector is what you need but no visual reference i do not know.

Re: Power Connection for Filastruder

You need to get a multimeter to check the polarity of the wires. From there you can wire it up as detailed in the instructions.

Re: Power Connection for Filastruder

The problem I'm running into is I have the Filastruder 99% assembled. I just have to connect the power to get it up and running, and that is where I hit a wall. I got more confused when I was told that I do not need to cut the end of the power cable.

If the end of the cable does not need to be cut, how do I connect it to the power supply to the Filastruder? The instructions are unclear, there is no female for the plug, so am I just supposed to solder the wires to the end of the coaxial power connector?

Re: Power Connection for Filastruder

The kit should have come with a female DC barrel plug with about 8" of wire still connected. This would be wired up to the switches and ground pin on the PID unit. Hopefully it didn't find its way into your garbage. sad

Re: Power Connection for Filastruder

I haven't thrown anything away from the kit after I opened it. Not even the bags. There was no female DC barrel plug. I'll look again and if I can't find it I'll ask for a replacement. Thank you MrFlippant for telling me how I connect the power to the Filastruder.
