Topic: Repetier Host VS Marlin

Hi, people. I bought a generic Prusa i3 clone from some obscure store. This 3D printer comes with pre-installed Repetier Host.
Is Marlin better than Repetier Host and why?

Re: Repetier Host VS Marlin

I think you are confused on a couple of things. First is the host. That is the software on your PC that runs the printer and sometimes the slicer as well is integrated. Those include but are not limited to Cura, Repetier Host, Simplify3D, Craftware, and several others.

The next is the firmware which is on your printers mainboard. Those include but again are not limited to Repetier, Marlin, Teacup, Smoothieware, and several other and many are processor dependent.

So if you are asking about firmware between Repetier and Marlin the two most common it come down to personal preference. There is no real difference between them although Marlin seems to get updates faster.

As for the Host, again personal preference and if you want to pay or use free. Some like one host but a different slicer. Some like a host with the slicer that is built in to it. Almost all have a slicer built in but some prefer a stand alone slicer as well.

It's really down to personal taste and what meets your needs. For the record, there is no Marlin Host. But most are compatible with Marlin Firmware.
