Topic: Extruder Gear replacement

My friend has a da vinci jr, and there is always clicking when printing and quite often the motor is turning in the extruder but the filament is not moving, it is acting like it its not griping at all, is this a common issue, i have looked at other extruders and gears, but none of them have the counter wheel , is it necessary to have the counter plugged in, if not could i just use something like this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Redrex-Upgrade … B07DDGGN92

or can i get a new gear (preferably) if so does anyone know exactly what its called, i.e model/part number

thanks

Re: Extruder Gear replacement

Unplugging or blocking the photo sensor, or removing the half-circle mask will cause filament jams being reported when there are no jams. This is not immediate and can kill a print after some time has elapsed. The printer doesn't use the photo sensor to keep track of filament usage. That is calculated by the controller, using extrusion thickness and feed rates.

Re: Extruder Gear replacement

The drive gear on the motor is the one that folks usually replace (vs. the idler gear with the counter wheel).

These are available.  You just need to make sure that:
1) the inner diameter hole is the same
2) the overall length works / doesn't interfere
3) if the outer diameter isn't the same, you'll need to change the feed setting.

You could also try adjusting the spring tension.

Would you have a link to the brass drive gear?  They looked pressed onto the motor shaft.  Are they actually replaceable?
