Topic: Looking for a good SLA printer for 100mm diameter projects

Without breaking the bank how close can i get to a decent SLA printer capable of printing 100mm diameter objects?! The Z height must be capable of the same 100mm dia.

Anycubic Photons, Wanhao Duplicator 7 and many others will print that size. Just know that the print will be brittle and becomes even more brittle over time. The resin is acrylic and will not act like the results you get from FDM machines. So if you need durability then SLA is not the way to go.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

I've had good results from my Anycubic Photon.  The downloadable Chi-Tu-Box slicer is better than the version included with the printer.

From what i understood is that some resins are as Strong as ABS! Is this not true because I do need something that can handle under the hood of a cars heat at around the strut towers and weather resistance for plastic emblems. Any resins handle that at all?!

You could try durable resins at about $95 per liter. But even then they may still not be durable enough. All you could do is try and see. The issue is finding durable resins that is compatible with DUV machines. Most of the durable stuff is for laser based machines and it will not work in direct UV machines.

Re: Looking for a good SLA printer for 100mm diameter projects

All of my under-hood stuff has been printed in ABS or TPU.  Printed items have lasted for years on my old VWs and Alfa Romeo.  I've been reluctant to even try resin, for the reasons mentioned above.

What are you trying to print, that you feel you need resin for?

Re: Looking for a good SLA printer for 100mm diameter projects

Custom VW strut tower caps for the MK1(air ride)-MK2. B pillar emblems and I make MK2 Jetta dual cup holders for the center console cubby.  I've been printing in ABS for some time now as well as PLA plus. Not a fan of PLA alone for benches and such as I never really got into the small character printing. So the quality for raised letters on top of a 100mm surface doesn't lend as good a quality as resin does but hey if resin cant handle it then ill do my best with the FDM printer. PM me im a huge VW fan and owner. Ive got some cool cars to share with you!

Re: Looking for a good SLA printer for 100mm diameter projects

First and foremost, the Anycubic Photon and most of the sub $1000 Masked SLA (MSLA) printers, ARE NOT capable of producing a 100mm diameter print.  The print area is only about 120 x 68 mm, x 150mm in height.  If you have a relatively flat object (such as a 100mm round disk), you could orient it vertically, but if you need 100mm height as well, it's a no go.

You'd have to look for a printer like the Formlabs Form 1+, 2 or 3 or the Peopoly Moai.  There are larger format MSLA and DLP printers, but they are not cheap.  The cheapest thing you can probably find that will handle that size is the Moai.

As for the the strength of a resin print, there's nothing out there, not even the so called "tough" or "durable" resins come close to ABS, and with FDM you can also use Nylon which is yet another level of strength.

Bottom line is if you want great looking models that are not going to be subjected to mechanical forces, SLA is great, but if you need functional prints that are going to be subjected to external forces, FDM is the way to go.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

Pirvan,

You're right about the Photon's dimensions; my mistake.

Thanks.
