Topic: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

Hey guys! I encountered this problem a day after I got the printer. I loaded my clear filament into the feeder(?) but after I selected "Load Filament", nothing came out of the nuzzle. What can be causing the problem here? Please comment if you have any idea what the problem is. Thanks!!

Are you getting an error, or just no feed?

Make sure the spring loaded lever on the head is fully up and not sticking..

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

I didn't get any error messages. When I disconnected the feeding tube from the nozzle, I saw the filament that I have filled in previously and it was not melting when I selected load. I think it might be the problem with my nozzle. wbu?

Re: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

same problem here...the filament loads fine until it hits the extruder, then it can't push thru. I've repeatedly cleaned the nozzle, unloaded/reloaded and just can't get it to push thru (34 hours of use before this occurred). I tried calling tech support, but I couldn't understand the woman who answered, and all she could suggest was to view the extruder cleaning videos. There are several nozzle cleaning videos, but I haven't come across any mention of a blocked extruder...I finally put an email into tech support, but I'm stuck sad

Re: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

I have the same problem. After using the printer for only 3 days where i got some nice prints ( about 6 ) the printer does not want to load the filament anymore ... it loads then it just seems it can't push the filament thru ...i have already cleaned the extruder and print nozzle but doesn't want to load anymore ... I'm stuck too.

Re: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

Hello... It's probable the filament loading gear that needs cleaning.  There is a gear (located where you insert the filament) that moves the filament to the print head, see videos on how to disassemble and clean it........  Hope this helps!

Re: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

I fixed it !!!
I did the cleaning of the printer nozzle but that didn't really clean it all.
The trick is to go to the clean nozzle.
1. Unload the filament
2. Take the guide tube off the printer head.
3. Go to the clean nozzle option in the menu.
4. Take the printer head off the machine and put in the filament ( still with no guiding tube ).
5. Let the temperature get up till it says ready for cleaning in the menu.
6. Push in the filament just a bit till something comes out of the nozzle.
7. Turn off the printer and then turn it back on ... go to the monitor mode and check the temperature of the printer head.
8. Wait till it's 90 degrees and now pull out the filament out of the nozzle.
9. Put the printer head back and attach the guiding tube again and load filament.

After that it worked for me this really cleaned out the whole printer head and i can make great prints again !!!

This was the only way to really clean the printer head and nozzle it's a bit work but it solved my problem perfectly.
now i see a good amount of filament coming out of the nozzle again.

Hope this helps for others.

I think my clog is too far up in the extruder.  I don't think I'm melting at all when I manually push filament in so it can't grab onto anything.  Appreciate the suggestions though!

Re: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

After several unsuccessful emails to tech support, I returned it to Barnes & Noble and did an exchange. 2nd unit just had the exact same issue tonight, but this time, I was able to get the ball of goop to pop out all of the sudden.

I expect I (we) will be running into this issue frequently, so hopefully we'll be able to figure out a way to clear these Extruders out when the blockage is occurring in the top section (not the nozzle). I wish there was a way to open up the extruder to clear this out.

P.S. Now I'm running into an issue where the filament is pushing the black stopper plugs out, then the clear tubing slides loose, then the filament just backs up completely...does anyone know where to find replacement tubing and the black stoppers?

Re: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

I had this same issue today, and as it looks like there wasn't a solution I thought I'd post what I found!

I'm sure people will say this was a bad idea... but I set the printer to cleaning mode, heated up the metal cleaning rod with a lighter, and then passed it through the hole from the top of the extruder once it was up to temperature.

Sure enough the rod melted through the blockage and now it's all working perfectly smile

Hope it helps someone!

Re: Da Vinci Jr. Filament not loading

It is not necessary a bad idea, but would recommend atomic pull afterwards to clean up for good. Also replace the PFTE tube in throat (which is very cheap) if filament resistance is high.
