Topic: Solidoodle 2 spec question

Can someone tell me what the stock wattage for the solidoodle 2 hotend/heater is and which thermistor it uses. I am going to upgrade to a E3D v6 and want to get as close as possible. Thanks in advance

Re: Solidoodle 2 spec question

The stock SD2 power supply will drive an E3D, it did mine - for a while.  Strongly suggest upgrading the power supply. Can't get to my power supply to tell you the name - something 'Light'.  Mine is mounted under the printer, and I haven't seen it for over 5 years, quite reliable.  Someone will be along that can tell you the name.  The stock SD2 thermistor can be reprogramed with a firmware update, which by the way is pretty much required when you move from the stock extruder to an E3D to realize it's potential.  You need to consider a SSR (Solid State Relay) to drive the whole works.  Not hard to do, plenty of instructions available on the Wiki portion of this forum.
Good Luck!!!

Re: Solidoodle 2 spec question

the name of the upgrade power supply is Super Night (not light)

I use them as well on my SD4s

Re: Solidoodle 2 spec question

I want to start by saying thanks to both of you for responding. Ski52 are you saying that any E3D hotend thermistor will work? If the firmware needs to be flashed will you point me to where I can get the correct firmware? As for upgrading the powersupply I'm not ready to do that yet. The reason Im doing the hotend is because the guy I bought the printer from installed the SD2 Jigsaw 3d printed replacement the hotend is so loose it keeps causing layer shifts every 5th or 6th layer.

Re: Solidoodle 2 spec question

Use the thermistor that comes with the E3D, and firmware will need to be updated with the correct thermistor profile for accurate temp readings.

Take a look through the Wiki pages - http://www.soliwiki.com/ - there are instructions and links for updating there.

it is strongly recommended to upgrade the power supply as the stock ones are a bit under-powered.
