Topic: flashing, is it worth it

I do own a davinci jr1.0 printer. However, i have recently replaced it with a cr10. Now my brother-in-law wants to borrow the jr1.0.

It prints third party filament just fine, since i am using the nfc tag trick, but the issue is, should i flash it so he can use a better slice than xyzprint which is supper clunky and slow. I own a copy of simplify3d and prusa slicer2.0, both of which he likes. Is it worth the hassle to flash it to use one of those two?

The printer is having some troubles with circles but i think once i tighten the belts and get rid of the snags, it will work fine.

Thanks

I would tell him to save his money and buy a CR10 as well.  Much better and much more reliable printer. Even if you flash it, you are still dealing with the same hardware which is the biggest issue with XYZ. It's cheap, it wears prematurely and there are no part suppliers for them. Even XYZ will not sell parts. They will have you ship it back at your cost then repair it at your cost and then ship it back to you at your cost.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Re: flashing, is it worth it

It seems to me that folks either love or hate the davinci.
I have a friend that has one I Do not recall witch model but loves it.
I know another guy that rebuild them into working machines,
And even the solidoodles need a bit of  attention out of the box.

The point here is hand a poor quality machine to someone and they will base there experience on it . then make a determination if they like 3d printing or not.
So do you really want to lend him that printer?? Your choice of coarse.
