Topic: Davinci 1.0 heater question

I'm half way through a ramps conversion because none of my pc's would recognize the printer. I have the end stops left to wire up and the led. I was doing a once over before I tried to apply any power to the printer. I noticed I have continuity between the positive and negative of the hot end heater. I'm thinking the heater is bad and that is maybe why the davinci board took a dump on me. I unhooked the hot end and checked from wire to wire and I have 5 ohm. I just need confirmation that I'm correct in thinking the hot end is bad.

Re: Davinci 1.0 heater question

5 ohms sounds about right for a heater. It is just a coil of wire.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Davinci 1.0 heater question

Ok. I just thought it was weird. I had the meter set to beep and checking to make sure I didn't have any shorts and when I got to the heater it beeped from the main 12v source to the negative terminal of the heater. I just thought it was shorted. I then disconnected the wires and checked between the two heater wires. Makes since now that you explain it. It's like the coils used in my electronic cigarettes.
