That is huge build volume! Does it have filament sensor and power failure recovery function? Can not tell from the description.

You are reading the same thing we all see. Since it is not released yet, the answers to your questions are unknown. Since it is a Bowden it most likely does not have a filament sensor. It is also an MKS board running on Marlin. I was not aware marlin supported resume on power loss except in some specially modified versions. Foldgers tries to keep the firmware close to stock except for machine specific settings.

In order to have resume on power loss the machine needs a battery to keep the board CPU and memory energized. It also needs to be able to remember or figure out where it's last position was. It needs a way to detect the power loss and dump the current program to an SDcard until power is restored.

Also most users print real time from a PC that is feeding the data real time to the printer. So if power goes down so does the PC and so does the data stream.

If you really need this feature as in your in a power failure prone area then put the PC and the printer on a UPS.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

My CR-10S have filament sensor and power failure recovery function.

It will be disaster for large build volume printer don't have filament sensor. You will have to watch it print when filament almost run out or replace filament before it runs out.

I have not run into power failure yet, but filament run out on overnight printing a lot. I guess this is where Mosaic Palette come in for these type of large build volume machine without filament sensor support.

You could just put a fresh spool on before going to bed. There is no way a printer can go through a full spool in eight hours.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

True, then you will end up with lots of half empty spools. I guess people do this a lot will develop the ability to estimate how many filament left on spool and how long it will last by just look at the spool, but I'm not there yet.

I have run mine for 10 years in my bedroom while I sleep with no issues. Mine however is all metal so what tiny bit there is that could burn is not enough to spread or catch anything else near by on  fire.

Most of the ones that have caused fires where traced back to faulty wiring/mods and poor construction.

Your hot water heater or central heat poses just as much of a threat as a 3d printer does. So you can be cautious or you can even be overly cautious but I am not afraid of mine causing a fire since all mods are done by a certified tech and as I said mine is all metal and the boards are inside metal enclosures as well. I also only used self extinguishing wiring when I rebuilt mine.

If you go to the official Marlin site they specifically say the build they release does not support power recovery. The most current official version has no mention of power failure or resume on power loss in the configuration .h or configuration adv.h files. The ones that do are special machine specific version and as I said you would need a board that has a battery backup on the RAM and CPU so that the data in the boards buffer would not be lost. Power recovery only works on machines that print from SDcards either on the mainboard that is loaded through USB or through the LCD. A machine that is getting a realtime data stream from PC will not be able to auto resume since the PC will also shutdown thus shutting down the host.

Again your best bet for safety from power failures is to have the PC and printer on a UPS. That also offers surge protection and brownout protection that could cause logic lockups and cause one of those fires that you hear about.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

self extinguishing wiring? whats that? even Star Trek didnt have that LOL

I worked on all appliances household thru industrial and even electric range Oven Elements with fiberglass/ceramic insulated wires etc once element burned out and shorted to the Carbon element casing it looked like an Arch welder cutting a large hole in Oven cabinet even after turning off circuit breaker to Range for a bit like a sparkler. seen it 1st hand many times with electric heating devices. so yeah better respect anything that heats no matter what the source of heat is. never know what may happen and its very scary indoors. just poor safety precautions can multiply that disastrous outcome.

Guess you need to get out more and explore the tech that is out there. Or just simply Google self extinguishing wire..

you forget I have a Makerbot 2X that is Stock. Im not worried about the wiring aspect but I have had a Rats nest  2 to 3 hours into a print 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years. which is always in the back of my mind. The longest print I have done so far has been about 14 hours. at least now the i have Moved I have a 9 X 12 room for my 3d printing so I hope to add a few more printers before i retire in june.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

Does anyone worry about the toxic gases being emitted? This has been my biggest fear and is why I have not purchased a good printer that would print ABS and other materials. The only place I have to keep my printer is in the house and in Florida you do not keep the windows open for long.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

Apparently there is a scathing article on the NET about the "DANGERS" of micro  particle being emitted from 3d printers .
further looking showed the researchers to be less than reputable. The 3d printing professor  on u tube did an episode on this subject. . Bottom lie is there is no real conclusive evidence for or against the real "DANGER"
So here is my take
use your printer in a well ventilated room.
If concerned about ABS fumes print pla.
If printer smelly plastics use an enclosure and ventilate to the out doors  if needed warm or heat makeup air.
the alternative is to invest in something like the up  mini or up box that has filtration and enclosure built in.

That said the majority of us here have our printers in our homes. My shop is off the kitchen and is a bit drafty/ well ventilated. I have had the printer on at the end of the dining room table. Some folks have printers in there bedroom . I am under treatment for asthma and have no apparent health effects from 4 years of casual 3d printing and have no complaints from the wife about plastic smells .
Ultimately safety is your responsibility and you need to decide if the danger is real or hype.

I know what machine you have. I have a fully converted clone of   yours with a heated bed and it is my best machine. Also there are two mods you might be interested in. Once they arrive in a week or so I will be doing a full overhaul on my machine.

the so called "dangers" have been seriously over-hyped to be perfectly honest.
I print ABS almost exclusively, and have no major problems with odors, or any other issues.
I also have COPD.

my "workshop" is a converted bedroom. I have 5 printers set up, with at least one running on most days, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time. It is far too cold in the winter to have open windows, so ventilation is the normal air flow in the room.. still no problems here.
I do have an air filter/purifier in the room, but frequently forget to turn it on, lol.

This is a kit build machine the price does not include an extruder or lcd for this price  these are like $10 each more depending on the options you select.  This is a very large printer I expect directed at advanced users. And I expect the size completed to be somewhere in the 500 deep x 500 high x 1000 mm long .
As always i make no recommendations for or against the purchase of this machine. This a a newly released kit build so expect a couple missing parts and a few glitches in the build manual.
This can be a great opportunity for someone wanting /needing an affordable large format printer.

The heat bed is mains powered so make sure you are comfortable with such wiring.

as others have stated. no real evidence/testing has been found to base much on but many people are bothered by any odd odors even scent candles/oils and I am like Heartless using only ABS as PLA has the strong Maple syrup smell and other drawbacks. I only have some days window can be left open but my home just got fully weatherized last year including vent which keeps fresh air replacement going most days so an separate exhaust for 3D printer is best fix. My wife complains of any smells even the neighbors cigarettes being drawn in by our vent fan. We have had Eye/throat irritation when printing all day and its worse if sitting near printer but odors get trapped in parts of house making you think something is smoldering at times. best fix I done was buying a small Holmes air ionizing filtered fan at Walmart and a box of charcoal filters that can be cut to fit and replace them monthly leave fan on low near printer to draw odors away and filter air into room. takes at least 90% odors out if not all. air tight homes need this most if not vented to outside from printer through ducted fan and charcoal filter should still be used to save environment. cant speak on other printing materials that have worse off gassing but external venting of 3D printers is the obvious solution just like Labs do. the powder type 3D printers do this already also the post cleanup cabinet for them and recomend using them in a lab clean room environment with proper safety wear for users.

here in the USA We are lucky as our laws make it mandatory that any product sold here must have MSDS document available from manufacturer/distributor free of charge so consumers/users know what if any hazards are involved with products so ask or search web sites for PDF of them at makers/distributors of filament site. while your at it do same for other household products you use including laundry detergents you may be surprised how much more hazardous they are also.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

PETG and PLA are both good choices if you are concerned with the scare tactics of others as these two filaments have little to no smell as is the case with PETG and then warm sugar or syrup as is the case with PLA. Be warned though there are a number of companies now making blends and calling it PLA. All you need to do is start printing and if it smell like melting plastic it is a blend. PURE PLA smells like hot caramel or sugar when printing as it is sugar based.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

some exotic materials like the stuff plastic soda bottles are made of may have no smell but do have toxic off gassing that can be dangerous. so need proper venting. to say otherwise is like saying that Carbon Monoxide never killed anyone because it has no odor, taste or color either.

Re: Folger tech ft 6

These under window ventilation are easy enough to make, print some adapter and add dryer ventilation hose. You can take it out easily if you want to undo the whole thing. And you don't have to run the fan very fast, as long as it keep slightly negative pressure in the enclosure is good enough, otherwise you will have trouble with layer split for ABS.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:763081

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2923474

For regions with extreme cold weather or strong wind, you will need to print the outside ventilation grille or shaft to prevent wind blow in and bring in cold wind/sand/neighbor's cooking smell or cigarettes.

If you use cheap filament, the total cost can be controlled under $20 and it is easy enough to make. (I hope this is not derail from the topic)
