I have a silhouette picture, black & white, that I'd like to print for the outside of a birthday gift for one of the neighbor kids. I have searched Google and all I get is advertisements for some other printer. I converted the jpeg file to an stl, but it's only 1kb, obviously just a flat picture. I need to add 'thickness' somehow - 5 or 6 layers to let RH see it.
Any help appreciated...

Not to nitpick but the term is Lithophane.

Lithophane Won't work in this case. I only want the silhouette - no background. I found something that will suffice for now. Thanx for the thoughts.
With photoshop you can extrude parts of an image
Cura, the actual host has a print image function that will convert pictures into a print using Light or Dark sections to represent height.
Before Simplify3D Cura Host was the only host I would ever use.

Lithophane should work, you just need to make sure your background is pure black, and set thinnest layer to 0 in Lithophane model setting, and set thickness to whatever thickness you want your silhouette to be.
You might want to make your image black and white in photoshop by change your image mode to grayscale in photoshop, then use image-adjustment-levels to remove details of your image so that the final image have only two color, black and white and no gray at all.
You can download photoshop CS2 for free in adobe website. It is very outdated version but more than good enough for this function.
Personalty something like that I would use a program like inscape to convert to an svg file then import into 123d design and exude a thickness then export as a stl.
I already said that a lithophane will NOT work. I have created numerous lithophanes before.

Being I couldn't create that, this is what I settled for - an stl from Yeggi - more detail than I wanted, but it'll work

I wold consider that mor of a two tone high contrast drawing.
You ended uo with a product you are happy with and works that is what is important.
