Topic: Help with custom installation of an extruder (Modding a DaVinci Jr 1.0
My current 3d printer is an old DaVinvi jr. 1.0, and so far it has irrevocably clogged two extruders. Rather than continue paying $100 apiece for replacements, I have decided to modify the extruder to use an E3D v6 by replacing all the electronic bits with a RAMPS and an Arduino. This hopefully lets me use the existing frame and motors and stuff.
My plan is to cut down the main plastic frame of a dead extruder to a flattish plate that still mounts to the current carriage. The problem is, I don't know the melting point of the original extruder plate, so what I'd like to do is have some kind of spacer that I can use to mount the extruder. The plan is to use some car repair adhesive to stick the spacer to the fan box of the E3D and mount that to the old plate, thereby not having the extruder in direct contact with the little piece of plastic.
But, as a relative noob in the world of homemade printers, I have not had much luck finding a suitable spacer for the job. I'd also like to hear any thoughts on my overall plan before I burn down the house and fill the build plate with pile upon pile of plastic spaghetti.... So... Help me please....
Also, does anybody know if the stepper motor controllers in the DaVinci are built into the main board, or are they somewhere between that and the motors?
A picture of the piece I'm planning to cut down
Thanks
