Topic: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

Hi doodlers, I'm just setting up my Solidoodle 3 today.
I've already ran into a problem...

I've installed Repetier and imported a stl file.
I then ran the slicing button, which is still going at 23:45 as I type.
But, since the directions on the website seem to be for older software,
I can not figure out how to "reverse" the stock 3" filament from the extruder head... can anyone help me out?

Am I missing software or is it all done through Repetier?

Thanks,
John

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

Hi, just got mine yesterday, and all I did was to heat the extruder and extrude plastic in repetier, until gone...then inserted new filiment-extruded till it came out...

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

ok, I realized my slicer problem, revised my model and it only took a few seconds to slice and create the gcode.

cool... another silly question on my end.
How did you actually extrude?
My extruder is warmed up and ready to go

EDIT: ok, I hit Run and now it's building the model in Repetier.

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

Great, happy printing.  I have had three great prints so far with no problems except print removal.  I'm using abs glue (bits of filiment disolved in acetone) sprayed lightly on print area.  Prints do not warp or come off easily, have to let cool first.  No warping has occured at all, only the brim I printed lifted up some, but not the model itself.

The printer hasn't actually moved... Repetier says Idle.

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

I've posted this in the help forum:
HI, I'm attempting to set up my Solidoodle 3 for the first time.
I've installed Revetier and it seems to work.
I imported a stl file that I made in Maya.
ran it through Slicer
I thought I had the printer connected. The Connect button turned green.
When I hit Run Job, I can follow everything in the Manual window and it seems that Revetier thinks it's printing
but
I have not seen the printhead move yet.
The fans are on and it smelled warm but no movement.
I feel that this is a simple overlook on my part but really can't figgure it out.
Please help a noob get going.

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

Make sure you are using the correct printer COM port and have the baud rate in the program set to 250000 (that is what mine is at).  The default printer is "Virtual printer" which does nothing.

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

I'll give it another go but I think I tried both Virtual and Com1...
Do you need to plug the printer in after you configure Repetier to Com1?

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

When Com1 is selected and the printer pluged in
It will not connect.
When Virtual Printer is selected, the Connect button turns green.

Any idea's?

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

Yup, it's printing... now I just have to figure out how to get the abs to stick to the bed in my freezing apartment!

thanks everyone!

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

if you dont have a case, use cardboard to shield the sides until your can get some plexi cut. enclosing the printer is one of the best ways to stop warp.  Now if it straight up isnt sticking, first clean the bed with some isopropy alcohol.  If it still doesnt stick your ztab is probable to low.

Re: SD3 noob in Chicago needs help

Thanks Nicky!
I actually stumbled on that video yesterday and it did the trick.
I still had some warping in one corner but it was much better.

I used up my small amount of filament and now I'm waiting on more.
