Topic: 1.0A z axis only going down

Gentlemen.

I recently aquired a defect Davinci 1.0A. It reported the 0014 error, and i realized soon that this was due to the 5A fuse (R271) blown. This is the 12v supply for the extruder heater.

(This machine has the "strange wire" mounted to the z axis end sensor)

I hooked the machine up to the computer, installed the XYZware, and as you may guess, it  contacted XYZ, and updated the firmware on the printer

However now i have at leas three issues with the machine

1. The z axix does not move in the upwards direction. In jog mode it goes Down, but not up. i measured the feedback from the z-axis home sensor directly on the processor, and it alters from 3.267 V (ubstucted) to 0.142V (cleared). So it is not the home sensor. Also the signals from the processor to the z axis driver (STEP) is ok when commanded to go up, but no signal when commanded to go Down. so sensor is working, and driver is working.

Any sugestions how to come around this issue?

Apparently this could either be a software issue, or another signal that is holding the software from moving the bed upwards.

2. When i start the printer (in auto heating) the extruder starts from 10 degree celsius !! my room is 22 degree celaius, and this is also where the bed settles.

3. the bed does not heat up. the signal from the processor does not commant the heater driver FET to turn on.

4. Homing the axis, results in the x and y axix to home fien, but the z axix goes all the way Down and Locks itself all up at the downmost position.

Reading through this forum, I realize that i may be best of scrapping the printer. Not much positive talk here in the XYZ machines, but since i just bought 4 original filament cartridges, at leat i need an excuse for that.

Hope any supertec is able to rescue me :-)

Re: 1.0A z axis only going down

1. Switch z-axis end stop and/or step motor wire with x-axis and see if the problem transfer to x-axis.
2. Check if hotend themostate is stock version. also double check hotend themostate wire harness for possible incomplete short circuit.
3. Check fuse to power heated bed. If R271 fuse is burn, there might be reason to it.
4. same issue as 1.

Da Vinci 1.0 is first generate 3D printer xyzprinting designed and it has many issues. Most famous one is the wire harness and can cause many issue that hard to identify. Also the glass bed is problematic and can be avoided by adding another picece of glass on top. However, the case and main frame of Da Vinci 1.0 is very stable and make it good machine to print ABS if you replace the wire harness.

If you are newbie to 3D printer, I would say don't waste your time and put it on ebay and sale it for parts. Based on your description, you seemed to able do lots of mods and repairs. I would say in the worse case, you remake all the wire and RAMPS convert the machine and you will get very usable 3D printer.

3D printer with good case are often very expensive, if this is something important to you, and you don't calculate your time spend on the repair by your hourly salary, you should replace the wire harness and possibly the main board. If the case is not that important to you, sale it for parts on ebay. It is lot easier and cheaper to buy broken monoprice maker select V2 to repair.

Re: 1.0A z axis only going down

yizhoy.he thanks for the support, but sadly:

1. Switch z-axis end stop and/or step motor wire with x-axis and see if the problem transfer to x-axis.
Does not help, i already cehked this and the fault is not by the motor or the sensor. It is not the motor driver or the sensor input electonics either.

2. Check if hotend themostate is stock version. also double check hotend themostate wire harness for possible incomplete short circuit.
PTC resistor is 100Kohm at room temperature, i expect this to be normal ?

3. Check fuse to power heated bed. If R271 fuse is burn, there might be reason to it.
No R271 is for the extruder, 12 volt supply is present and the heater Circuits for the bed are ok, it is the signal from the processor that does not turn on the heater.

4. same issue as 1.
         Yes...may be the same issue.

I still need to investigate if this is a firmware problem. I believe that the errors showed up after the firmware upgrade

Re: 1.0A z axis only going down

Did you set the firmware for the correct board type and printer type before you uploaded it?

Re: 1.0A z axis only going down

Most likely i did not. I do not recall that i was asked for it.
It updated through the xzyware.
The XYZware says that my machine is a 1.0 but from the descriptions here i think i have a 1.0A

Never mind than. You said update so I assumed you went to Repetitive. Any thing stock is just a lateral move and not really an update in my mind.

If it only goes down then it thinks that the Z home sensor is being triggered in all positions which means the sensor is bad or the harness for that sensor is bad. The logic in the machine looks for a low when triggered and a bad sensor or open wire will make this same low.

Lastly would be bad firmware. I make it a rule never to update firmware unless it will fix a problem.

Re: 1.0A z axis only going down

If you suspect firmware is the cause, try repetitor-firmware.
http://www.soliforum.com/topic/16731/ho … updated-3/

This will give you many benefit besides the possibility to fix your issue. Actually the stock firmware is one of the reason people don't like Da Vinci printer. Keep in mind, if you have Da Vinci 1.0A, and you flashed repetitor-firmware, there is no easy way to go back to stock firmware (most people don't want to anyway).

If you are confident the motor and sensor is in good condition, something is wrong with the main board. if problem remain after flash repetitor-firmware, you might need RAMPS conversion if you are up to it.

Re: 1.0A z axis only going down

So late last night i took the chance and flashed repetier firmware to the Davinci 1.0A..with success!
Now all systems are working, all axis are homing, and the sensors, bed heater and extruder etc are working and temp readings are ok.
So the issue was in the xyz firmware for sure, nothing wrong with the board, processor or other hardware, great :-)
Now i need to get all the setting correct in the repetier host, but i guess i have to learn from others, and then experiment.
Thanks to yizhou.he for the guide how to flash. I had a few troubles with fileversions etc. but success at last.....
