Topic: Peopoly Moai SLA printer
Here is an interesting SLA printer.
https://peopoly.net/products/moai
This unit has a lot of technical similarities to the Form 1/1+ Formlabs printer, and it sells for $1250. They have very little information in terms of specs on the page, but most of the info is in the 2 embedded videos.
This unit comes as a kit which you put together, and that's where a lot of the savings comes from. According to the videos it takes about 4-5 hours to complete the build, and the kit is well made and thought out, and the parts well marked.
In the end you get a printer with similar build and specs as the Form 1+, that uses the same tilt technology, it even uses the same type of laser and galvos as the Form 1+.
The vat they sell is almost half the cost of the Formlabs, and according to them lasts nearly twice as long (if used according to their recommended settings), and is compatible with the Form 1/1+.
Their resins are also half price ($75/liter), and come in different colors.
The software is where it differs from the FormLabs printer. This unit uses Cura for printing, and the videos suggest using MeshMixer to generate the supports (since it can also hollow out the model).
Anyway, while I don't think most of the existing FormLabs users would ever consider this (they are NOT DIYers), for most of us here, this would be a welcome project.
So if you've been thinking about a SLA printer, but don't want to drop $3K+ for one, or buy a cheap DLP or LCD printer, then this might be something to look at.
