Topic: New Hot Ends - Original or J-Head?

I'm thinking about buying one or two new hot ends for my Solidoodle (so I can easily switch between PLA and ABS) and I'm not sure if I should get a second original Solidoodle hotend or if I should get two J-Head hot ends.

At the moment I'm waiting for Solidoodle to get back to me on their insane shipping fees to Austria ($40 to ship one hot end). So I still have time to decide.

People who have both hotends: what's your opinion? I'd want two identical hotends to make switching between them (using lawsy's mk4 extruder) easier. I'm also thinking about maybe using them in a dual extruder setup.

What do you think?

Well, I had to decide and with the j-head opinions I got from other threads I ordered two j-heads from ebay. I hope I get it to work with lawsy's mk4.

My J-Head arrived today, fits in lawsy's mk4 jigsaw. A little loser than stock, but nothing a bit of tape won't fix.

That's a relief! Thx for sharing.

I wonder: with the better thermistor placement in the j-head, did you have to change anything in your print settings?

You'll have to run the autotune once you change hot ends

If your thermistor is placed better, the reading will be higher so you will need to increase your printing temp. The standard system of strapping it to the outside makes it under read somewhat.

I havn't actually used the new j-head yet. Just put it into a spare Jigsaw I had.
