Topic: Temperature, connection and print head

I have a Solidoodle 4 3d printer, and I have had multiple problems appear in the last few days.  When I am heating the extruder and heat bed, the head bed will heat very slowly (slower than it has been previously.)  The extruder's temperature will climb very fast, and when I test extrude filament, the temperature will automatically decrease rapidly.  When a print has started, the print head will go to its "home" position, and then not move any further, yet the software thinks the printer is moving.   I suspect that is because the manual stop switch is somehow being pushed.  I am also having trouble just connecting to my printer.  Once the printer has a problem, I disconnect, and then close the software "Repitier-Host Solidoodle".  Yet when I re-open the software, I am unable to connect after clicking the "connect" button multiple times.  I recently replaced the printhead, and now the filament barely comes through the tip even at the highest temperature I have attempted which is 230 degrees.  I have had to simply unplug the printer and restart my computer when a problem occurs.  All of these problems are preventing me from getting any printing done.  Are there any solutions to any of my problems out there?

Re: Temperature, connection and print head

What print temperature are you using . Sounds like you are at the upper limit of the machine . the temp overshoots slightly hits the upper limit and shuts down .

What kind of print head?

If you changed to an E3D or similar, you MUST update the firmware with the correct thermistor settings, and adjust the MAX_TEMP setting for it to work properly.
Temp settings are very, very different for aftermarket hotends than what the stock hotend sees, due to thermistor placement.

I do have to agree with Tin, however - it does sound like you hitting the MAX_TEMP limit in the firmware and it is shutting down.

The only "manual" stop switch is the software one in Repetier Host, so unless you are clicking on it, that is not the problem

I agree with Falcon and Heartless.  It sounds like you're hitting max temp.

I have an E3Dv6 on my SD4; much better than the stock setup.  If you change over, you must update the firmware.
