Topic: Hemp plastics

Calm down, folks!
Jagowilson informed me of http://www.hempplastic.com and the claims are pretty substantial. One of them being that it is an alternative to PC-ABS. Since I am so new to home extrusion, I figured the bright minds here to discuss it with more expertise....

Re: Hemp plastics

you should fill out a sample request form to get the technical datasheet and MSDS:

http://www.hempplastic.com/samples.html
I imagine some of the veteran users here can determine if the material will behave well when printed.

They offer two blends. I don't know how well injection molding plastics work for printing, but they offer an injection molding blend and a 100% hemp blend:

Re: Hemp plastics

I just got done filling the request form out.

The material does not seem to be in pellet form, however. In the request, I made a note about an interest in it, but obviously needed info.

Re: Hemp plastics

If you can get it to extrude, you might need to use a 0.8mm or larger nozzle to print...

Cool stuff!

Cool! Let me know if you are able to get anything from them. I've never had any luck with resin manufacturers. They think I'm crazy when I ask for 50lbs or so roll

Re: Hemp plastics

Bumping this thread a year and a half later because I just found this today.
https://www.kanesis.eu/en/products/

While they do not currently offer pellets, they are selling the filament. Kanesis claims Hempbioplastic (HBP) is stronger than PLA, as recyclable, and warps less. No info given in comparison to PC as in the original post, but they claim it to be a better option than our standard PLA.
