Topic: Thermal runaway

I've ran my heated bed for a while without issues. Now out of nowhere when it gets to over 65 while printing it will throw a error and pause. I tried lid tuning with no luck. I'm using a Xbox 360 a.c. adapter and this has been the setup for a while with no issues. I believe both the hotend and bed can get up to temp but as soon as it tries to print a error is thrown. The board I'm using is mks 1.3 I believe.

Re: Thermal runaway

So have you measured your voltage at the point the problem happens to see if it is dropping?

Re: Thermal runaway

At the 12v terminals of the a.c. adapter?

So it v sits at around 11.87 and varies. When trying to hit 70 and keep the hotend hot while printing it dropped to 11.8 and triggered thermal runaway.

Re: Thermal runaway

You need a better poser supply for sure. An XBOX supply does work, but only so well and for so long. I think this will solve your problems

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Thermal runaway

The issue is that the Xbox power supply only gives you 12 volts at 19 amps max. That is not enough for a printer in regards to current. Most printers use a 25 to 30 amp supply. I even went overboard on my Delta and put a 90 amp supply. You can never supply too much current. The system will only use what it needs. Nut you need to have some  over head as well.
