Topic: Name that plastic! Guts of different DVD drives.
So...I happened to go through with building a Photon Printer: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:902826
After successfully harvesting the parts I needed from some IDE models, I looked over the motors, gears, and lenses/prisms that I also scored. Then I noticed a symbol on one of the plastic frames:
So I thought: "Cool, maybe someday I'll have a hotend capable of PC+ABS and will have reason to use it in my Filastruder." But then...
Obviously, I decided to search the rest of the frame pieces for ABS symbols. I mostly found more PC+ABS and some PPE:
Then, I ran into mystery plastic that had recycling symbols, but no apparent name:
Both pieces are from the same drive, and one of them has this table:
I don't need to know the material right this instant, but...wouldn't it be cool if they turned out to be one of the "better" plastics to be found in old electronics?
Also, the parts that say PC+ABS or PPE are from a SONY DVD drive from 2003. The rest are from a MAGICSPIN drive from 2005.
