Topic: Death from hairspray

Fire ruled to have started from "cloud" of hairspray built up in the room and a spark from the printer or power supply.  I'm not sure how you get a cloud of hairspray when using a hobby printer, but tragic situation nonetheless.

Be careful out there!

Re: Death from hairspray

The hairspray only acted as a catalyst...all FOUR cans he used. Absolutely absurd.
It was the magician's flash paper improperly stored directly underneath his printer that caused the most damage.

This is a sobering reminder that 3D printers can be a lot of fun, but they are still tools and not toys. Be safe everyone!

Re: Death from hairspray

one - the fire happened nearly a year ago (date of actual fire is posted in one of the paragraphs of the story - December 21, 2015)
two - NO WHERE in the actual story is it mentioned how many cans of hairspray were used - the only place multiple cans were mentioned were in the comments...
three - to me, this smacks big time of pushing products by "friendly" companies (ie: those listed by name at the end of the story) by creating hysteria over using hairspray from a tragedy that happened nearly a year ago.
four - the story seems to use a lot of speculation over what actually caused the explosion, with their favorite theory being the 3d printer & hairspray as being the culprit. I am surprised that they even mentioned the improperly stored flash paper at all.
I am sorry, but if there was THAT big of a cloud of hairspray fumes in the room, he would NOT have been comfortable being in there.
Something else most likely caused that explosion, but yeah, lets blame the hairspray & the 3d printer because it serves our purposes.

Am I being cynical - probably... more so than usual anyway.. tongue

Re: Death from hairspray

OK it is perfectly safe to spray this stuff on ones head. But not ok on a printer.
And what was the kid really doing? Since dead men(and Boys) tell no tales that leaves the often bias media to tell them Hmmmm

And hundreds possibly thousands of folks world wide using 3d printers manny with hair spray safely . This is not news. A teen is using this combo possibly carelessly and gets killed now that is news.

Re: Death from hairspray

Heartless- It was stated from the official inspection that he used four cans over a brief period of time. And you are dead on that this happened in 2015. While the rest of the world is catching up to "our" news" like the 3D printed castle in a backyard that came out in 2013 yet we see it as breaking news every few months, this is the same effect for us. Somebody dug up the story and it has gone viral in our communities.

I will do what I can to find my sources and post here. This dreaded cold feels like the plague...
