Topic: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

https://tools3d.azurewebsites.net/

Did it quit working?  I've tried to repair a small STL for two days. It jut sits there in a 'Queuing' status and does nothing.   I have been using this site...

https://makeprintable.com

It's free and works pretty good.

Any known reason M$ is not working?

Re: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

if that is the link to the old netfabb online repair service - MS has made changes to it.. not really sure what exactly, but a friend said they tried to use it recently, and it didnt give them a useable stl back - it was saved in the Windows 10 native format, and since he doesnt have Win 10 it was useless to him

Personally, I downloaded Netfabb basic a LONG time ago and use it instead of online services

Re: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

I'm not sure what's going on with The MS Repair service.

Tonight I tried to load up a model just to see what type of format it will output, but no matter what I upload, I get an error and it aborts loading the model almost instantly.

So it looks like it's broken at the moment.

I uploaded an .stl file for my laser engraver; everything worked okay and the fixed file was good.  Perhaps whatever problems they were having are now resolved.

Re: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

I'll give it another shot today.

Heartless - don't know what you mean 'Windows 10 format'.  An STL is saved in STL format, readable by most any slicer programs,
I have 3 windows (7, 8.1 & 10) and 1 Mac (OSX) machine and the STL programs are fully interchangeable among the bunch.  I use 1 shared folder on my network and access the files from any machine.  I think your friend has other problems.
My 0.2 cents

Re: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

the file that my friend got back from the online site was NOT an stl.

I don't have Win10, and know very little about it, but it is my understanding the M$ has come up their own version of 3d printing software for use with Win10 - and apparently it has a different "native" format.

again - I do not know this for fact - just what I have heard from others

Re: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

Now that you mention it, I have seen small blips and burps about M$ 3D something or other, haven't paid much attention. May have to follow it up.  Don't really need to, I just now am feeling somewhat comfortable with RH after a 2 1/2 year learning curve - don't really need to start all over again...

Re: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

So I went back to try a few models.  First of all, it doesn't seem to work with Firefox anymore.  Whenever I try to upload a model from within Firefox, it just aborts, so I tried Internet Exploder, and I can upload some models, but not others.

The resulting repaired STL is not a normal STL.  I can't open it in anything (MeshLab, NetFab, MeshMixer, RH.  It has an STL extension, but I'm not sure what's inside it.

In fact, MeshLab says premature end of file reached, so it could be a corrupted download.

I'll try a couple simpler one tonight.

Re: M$ 3D Tools/Repair Site

OK,  I just uploaded a fairly complex model of a Spacemarine, and it repaired it.  The resulting file is fine, a basic STL, no weird proprietary formats.

So it's working...   at the moment.
