Topic: DaVinci Junior cinema 4d and Slic3r

Good morning. recently I have purchased a DaVinci Junior, I am new into the field of 3d printers and had some problems on printing objects created by me. The printer makes a very mess. searching on the net I read that the xyzware might not be the best slicer and that Slic3r can be an optimum choice. Any one has tried it ? what are the settings and procedure to import a 3d object into slic3r and then export it for printing ? Thank You very much.

Re: DaVinci Junior cinema 4d and Slic3r

Hi

XYZ's software does muck around a lot. i have had stl files that ended up with holes in them or uneven layers after slicing was done.

Have started using slic3r as well, then used threedubber to get the files converted to .3w, saved on the SD card and printed like that.

have not done much printing with this yet as i need to figure out how to change the gcode to stop the printhead hitting the bed when it starts moving the first time, but you would have to change the print speed settings as the speed that it put in the first time was way too fast for the jr to handle, and the extruder kept skipping/knocking as the hotend could not keep up with the feed rate.

so what you would need is a .stl file to work from (keep a backup copy of your original somewhere save). during the slic3r setup process, enter your printers details, print bed size, nozzle diameter, etc as prompted. for gcode flavor i left mine on reprap for now. should be a good enough base to start from and experiment further with small changes here and there, and print to see the results.

there will be a steep learning curve but don't let that put you off. anything is better than XYZs crapware.

good luck

Thank you very much Zillard, in fact I have the same problems with xyz... holes, void parts filled randomly with material and completely missing some parts of the model. Working on slic3r and experimenting is a good way to learn smile

every tip will be appreciated.

Re: DaVinci Junior cinema 4d and Slic3r

NP.

Tell me, did you have any issues with your prints failing due to "Spool Errors"?

I have that happening to me more often than not, and its quite infuriating. Read somewhere that it could be an issue with the file you're printing, but then it would print past the point it failed previously, and the file was not changed, so im not sure of that. Also on a new spool/chip and its doing the same, so it does not seem to be a faulty RFID chip that causes it.

but the investigations are in full swing:)

Re: DaVinci Junior cinema 4d and Slic3r

I've used the process Zillard mentions (Slic3r->3dubber->SD card) mostly successfully for the last few months.  Early on, I was having problems with "spool errors" showing up part way through the prints where Slic3r was used instead of XYZ software.  At the time, I thought the problem might have been due to having the wrong header information in the .3w file.  Posted the question to the board here : http://www.soliforum.com/topic/13562/sl … ue-on-jr/.  But, there weren't any responses.  And, it seemed, the problem went away on its own.  I'm guessing there might have been a problem with the file itself (maybe from copying to the SD card?) rather than the contents of the file.

Thanks 81TTA

i will be testing it more later today, after i have finished leveling the bed with the paper spacer method for the jr. hopefully my spool errors also decides to go away.

holding thumbs.

Thank You 81TTA, I'll do some tests

Re: DaVinci Junior cinema 4d and Slic3r

Val have you tested slic3r yet?

Im still struggling to get a proper speed set for mine. seems the flowrate setting is also too high, as the extruder skips quite a bit.

Re: DaVinci Junior cinema 4d and Slic3r

Good morning Zillard.

After struggling a lot I have found a post in this forum : http://www.soliforum.com/topic/14583/sl … or-xyz-jr/

there you will find a configuration file for Slic3r that does all the work. I have tried ad printed a perfect object from my model. take a look at the post smile
