Topic: operating voltage range for SD4, Replacing a burnt out PS

HI All

Thanks for taking time to have a look at my question

I have an SD4. ended up getting roof leak in my garage and consequently killed the original power supply to my SD4.

Here is my current situation. I have located an Xbox one power supply and got DC cord changed to it from my origional SD4 PS and changed it into the Xbox PS. I have modified the new PS so its always on and its reading 14.04 VDC at the connector. I have been told that this PS has an internal voltage regulator that will deal with the voltage to 12 Volt but I really don't trust that.

Question is this; Will the SD4 operate with 14VDC input or am I gonna blow something up? Does anyone know the operating voltage for the motherboard in this SD4, It specifies on it that its SOLIDdoodle LLC, Motherboard Rev - E,

Jason

the xbox psu are just barely good enough to run a sd4. I had mine hooked to a couple and it sucked. the heat up times were horrible. you should go over to http://www.printitindustries.com/collec … wer-supply and pick up a supernight. A lot of us use them

Re: operating voltage range for SD4, Replacing a burnt out PS

thanks for the reply,

I chose the Xbox one PS because it was 12V at 17.9A and not the standard 12V @ 12.5A, Its a little heavier (by spec) of the origional

Right now I want to get it up and running and maybe upgrade the PS little down the road?

you need something that can handle 30a (i believe) for the heaters

That seems high, the original ps was the 12.5A. I know more is better if it helps I would upgrade to a 30a ps but right now trying to find out if what I have will work until I can order a better one

a better PSU will cost you less than $30...

http://www.printitindustries.com/collec … wer-supply wink

I run that type on both of my SD4s with no problems
My Kossel Kit and the 2020 Prusa i3 kit also use that type of PSU - again - no problems.
