Topic: A problem with stl
Hey all. I just bought kit from china and have a problem with printing stl, sometimes it displays that printing is in progress but without action. With g-code it works perfect. What is the problem? Thanks!

First off what printer? All your printing is done with gcode so I fail to understand what you're saying?

If he is using a CTC or makerbot, it does not use gcode.. My guess though is he got some bad STL files and needs to run through through netfabb.
well thats a crappy way to print lol fdm wise at least.
1st I heard this. how do they print from an STL? and why dont they say so in specs?
Makerbot stores all the printer settings in a .json file then you load the stl file into Makerbot desktop position it how you want it on the bed and then export to file. it makes a .X3G file that is then copied to an SD card which is inserted into the printer to print
the file is sliced during the export. So I think the g code is incorporated into the X3G file.
when the computer is connected to print through (Makerbot Desktop) I think all the slicing and printer settings are loaded in realtime.

See the post below you. They still use STL, it is just converted to an X3G file instead of gcode. You cannot send M commands either unless your software can convert them to an X3G serial stream as well.
so not open source then
how did China get it? bet I know
at this point - without knowing what the OP has for a printer, all anyone can do is take wild guesses. a kit from China could be most anything...
until the OP can come back & give more details - it is kind of pointless to make wild guesses & suggestions.
