Topic: octogram spiral top/bottom/infill pattern for slic3r

I received the carriages from AZERATE I won during the raffle and they had a top/bottom fill pattern I've never experimented with called octagram spiral, and I love it! Leaves a very appealing top/bottom layer pattern as you can see in the first object, and the infill looks pretty good on the second object. The infill is at 30% I believe, and would look pretty good using transparent filament.

The pattern you get depends on the object shape. It may not always be a star shape as you can see in your first object. It will vary. Try printing a wedge shape or circle to see some of the differences.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Forgot I tried another infill on our MakerBot called sharkfill. Had a print fail halfway through and got this pleasant reminder:

those odd infils add print time also. I use Honeycomb for better strength and holding cylinders shape better

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Octogram spiral takes less if not even time.
I have not played with it as an infill, so I cannot confirm or deny any strength or time claims for infill. But for first/last patterns, it takes longer but seems stronger than rectilinear in comparison.

Re: octogram spiral top/bottom/infill pattern for slic3r

i tried it as top & bottom pattern on a piece, print time was actually reduced a little - went from 40:20 with standard rectilinear top/bottom and infill to 39:55 minutes with the octagram spiral top/bottom and rectilinear infill
