Topic: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

Sorry if this has been asked.  I searched.

Will Lawsy's carriages fit a workbench?  I know the workbench is setup differently on the right side with the rollers.  My rollers have about 1/8 of an inch of clearance, which seems like they knew they could never get the thing dialed in.  I want to give Lawsy's carriages a try, but that's a lot of time and filament for nothing if they just don't work.

Thanks!

Of course I know what I'm doing.  I googled it.

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

The quick answer is no.
I have designed a new X carriage to hold a single E3d.  I don't know if I will redesign y carriages or not.  The big difference is the Workbench uses 10mm rods while Lawsy's carriages are for 8mm rods.  The spacing is different as well.

If there's enough demand I may decide to rehash Lawsy's carriages for the workbench.

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

Funny, I have yet to try dual extrusion.  I thought of lightening mine up.  I was going to draw something up where I could use my cnc and cut some of the parts for carriages, but that wouldn't work well for the rest of the folks out there with workbenches.  I just worry with the current state of SD, that we're out of gas on replacement parts.  It would be big of them to release stl's for parts, so folks could fix their machines.  I don't know why they didn't already.

Do you know why they added the relief on the right side instead of using a bearing or a bushing?  I've got a good idea, but I'm wondering if there is some other reason.

Of course I know what I'm doing.  I googled it.

It's all designed to compensate for bent rods

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

That makes sense.  I was looking at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1279646 on thingiverse.  I wonder if it could be adapted to use lm10uu instead of bushings.  I can draw it, but I wonder if it's worth it.

Of course I know what I'm doing.  I googled it.

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

All depends on your expectations of the machine and how much time you want to stick into it.  If you could get the y axis moving with much less resistance, it would allow you to increase the ridiculously low acceleration rate.  That would dramatically decrease print times.

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

Sounds like motivation to me.  My prusa is faster than this thing.  It's a hobby for me, so time isn't really an issue.  If it helps someone making a living off their Workbench, sobeit.  They can buy me a beer one day.  lm10uu ordered.  Still have to deal with my controller issue, but that's another thread.

Of course I know what I'm doing.  I googled it.

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

Hey wardjr, I'm stuck at work away from my printer.  Do you happen to know the length of the x rods on the workbench?  I'm guessing they're 10mm too.  I need to order some before I tear mine apart.  I'd rather not take apart the existing carriages and their rods.  Thanks in advance.

Of course I know what I'm doing.  I googled it.

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

I do not know off hand, the length.  They are 10mm diameter rods.
I'm also at work away from my printer.

Guess I'll just order them long.  Thanks again.

I'm at work right next to our printer, it's running right now but when it's finished I can check!

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

Looks like about 524mm, give or take a mm or two, I tried to measure while it was running, print still has several hours left tongue

Re: Lawsy carriages on Workbench

no worries.  That's close enough.  I found some cut to 525mm.  Waiting on a response on how straight they are before I order them.

Thanks!
