Topic: Repetier-host Solidoodle on ubuntu

okay I am working on leaving windows behind. I am almost able to do so.
one last and very important thing.

i need to be able to use my SD3 with Ubuntu. (i started with and am use to repetier-host, so i would like to continue using it.)

i found the old page on the soliwiki http://wiki.solidoodle.com/linux info from 2012 yay! how valid is it still?
do i have to reflash my firmware again? (i just got this working... so at least i know how.)

so is it as simple as reflashing and setting the proper baud rate: 115200 for the port speed instead of 250000.
then install the tarball? what's all this about compiling repetier-host? (never done that before...)

and how do i get the custom settings for SD3?

i mean i have installed the latest repetier-host for windows... and it didn't have the settings so i had to go back and find the version distributed by Solidoodle...

is there a way to import the SD3 settings to the latest version of repetier-host? (1.6.1)

thanks in advance!

Also Pronterface as distributed by Solidoodle does not exist... takes me to 404 bummer... page

Re: Repetier-host Solidoodle on ubuntu

a few people here have archived their site... we should sticky that.  you might find it if you search around for "solidoodle site archive" or similar.

SD2 Sanguinololu 1.3a atmega1284p, wood platform, lawsy's carriages, braided fishing line, pallet wood overhead spool mount, carboard/magnet enclosure, glass bed, E3D v6, bed levelling knobs, extended z-stop, 25A DC-DC SSR for bed heater, everything fixed to the SD2 frame, marlin firmware with some adjustments and extra failsafes enabled.  I'll never give up on you, little printer that could(n't)!

Re: Repetier-host Solidoodle on ubuntu

I was running RH on ubuntu 12.4 so its been a while. But yes, RH ran on linux but not as a native application, I think it was using wine to run.

Is still running like that or have they finally created a linux native program ?

anyway, back then I just ran RH in linux and then used Winscp to copy the the same settings ini files over to my linux box.

the ini files held all of the info for RH.

I would not flash anything just yet.

wise advice. nope, I'm taking my time on this one big_smile

thanks.

if i switch to slic3r/pronterface do i have to change the baud rate? or is that only for RH in linux?

mine connects at 115200 , I have no idea why everyone else uses 250000. I have a weird setup, I have a sd3 frame with SD2 guts. (long story)

I ran repetierhost on Lubuntu  with slicer on an old single core netbook for a while. Do you want pronterface for some reason ? once i moved onto RH, I never went back.

If I recall , there was a linux ubuntu deb file floating around that someone had put together that pretty much installed everything and added all the repos and ini files and drivers. I think  it was written for 12.4 and I installed it on Lubuntu 13.4. with only a few minor tweaks.

the linux guide used to be here http://www.solidoodle.com/how-to-2/how- … oftware-2/

the internet way back machine only goes back to 2014 for the page

I found this in my old bookmarks if it helps http://wiki.solidoodle.com/linux

Just got this nailed.  Install minicom adn then you'll have a RH option for usb serial. Conects jsut fine at 250000 baud. time for me to testprint

Re: Repetier-host Solidoodle on ubuntu

I would prefer RH, but I am having a dickens of a time getting it to work. mainly because the only distributable version i find from solidoodle is for windows.  I do not want to re-flash and change the baud rate just to use linux. RH for windows installed under wine, crashed last time I tried to get it to work. and with the latest linux versions of RH straight from repetier will not communicate with my printer, and how do I import SD3 profiles if it does communicate?

I'll try again this week, and see if I can figure anything else out.

how does this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minicom help? looks promising, from your post.

thanks for all the input thus far.
we'll figure this out big_smile

Re: Repetier-host Solidoodle on ubuntu

okay, making some headway!
wine is a no go. But the latest version of RH does connect to my printer!!!!
and @ the baud rate of 250000, so i don't need to reflash!!!! (happy day!)

one issue that i am having... i can home my hot end... but i can't move it out onto the build platform manually.

*edit: its even quirkier than that even. turns out it will travel anywhere manually... until i home it. once it has been homed it refuses to go into the negative. before that it travels anywhere... why?

if i send a print it will go...
i think it has something to do with the fact that when its 'home' or at 'park' its at 0.00
and it will not go into the negatives. because if i move it further in the positive (which mind you is like 1mm) i can go back but it always stops at 0.00. so... any ideas?

and is there a way to import settings?
or do i just have to screenshot and save my new custom settings?

In RH server and I assume RH , there is a setting for right and left sides of the bed. I am at work and cant look it up, I bet you just need to set that in your bed settings.

or post your settings so we can see what it's doing.

Re: Repetier-host Solidoodle on ubuntu

Rh X/Y settings can be inverted for the manual play arround, or alternatively... tell the printer to go in the direction of home when it already is home. Vollia, it does it for you automatically. I screenshotted and put my setting in manually

Re: Repetier-host Solidoodle on ubuntu

Ok, I just setup RH on my old netbook running Lubuntu latest version. To take a portable version with me to school for the kids. The new Repetir host install could not be any easier compared to previous versions.

just download the zip file for linux form their site, unzip it to a folder. move the folder to your home directory and in a terminal run the .sh setup file. It creates all the dependacieces and installs mono as well as setting your permissions on the usb/serial port. It even installs a program launcher in the menu.

Run the program and just copy the settings form your windows PC for the printer settings. I kept both copies open and the linux version is up and working in 5 minutes.

you will have to download slicer separately , but same thing, just unzip it into your RH folder and restart RH, it should pick it up.

For slic3r , just copy the 3 folders from you windows pc that hold the settings. its under something likec"\user\app data\slic3r the folders you want are "print" "printer" and "filament"  these folders hold all the ini. files that tell slic3r what to do. place them in your linux version of slic3r in the appropriate folder.
