Topic: Extruder Heat Keeps Climbing

I bridged the fuse/resistors on the board to get the extruders working again, but extruder 1 just keeps going.  It's not resisting I assume?  I've switched thermistors and checked all the wiring.  I can't figure it out.  Anyone know what to check to find out why it won't stop climbing?  Thanks.

Does it heat only when told to or does it heat as soon as power is applied to the system?

By switching thermistors what do you mean? The bed has a totally different thermistor from the hot end. The bed thermistor wont even fit in the hot end as it is a flat device nearly a quarter inch square.

It only starts heating when told.  The problem is when it's told to do 230, it keeps going and going until it fails.  I replaced the thermistor in that hot end thinking maybe it had a problem reading the temp.

Are you using stock software or other? Does it do the same thing if you print a demo model from the LCD?

I'm using Repetier.  I usually set the temp from the LCD.  I can't print unless I turn off that one extruder or it will decouple.  It works fine with the other extruder.

Re: Extruder Heat Keeps Climbing

So you set temp through LCD? What are the dafault temps set for in Repetier under printer settings from the tool bar and what is your temp set for in your Slicer?

I set the temp to the same temp I have set in the slicer. This is a hardware issue. I just don't know where else to look.

Re: Extruder Heat Keeps Climbing

Sounds like you blew more than just the protection resistors then. Just one more question, you said you set temps by using the LCD? So when you set the temp there it will pass the set point or only once a print starts? If it climbs from the LCD setting then the control on the main board is blown and its time to start trolling ebay or users here that are parting out for a board. Or consider swapping to a RAMPS 1.4 and be done with XYZ all together.

Re: Extruder Heat Keeps Climbing

Right. When I set the temp from the LCD it just keeps going. Doesn't matter about what the print specifies. It's like a balloon floating away. wink

Ramps sounds good, but I need documentation. I've never done it.
