Topic: Scan Size Difference

Hello,
I know I read this in a topic here but am having trouble locating it again.  I am having trouble getting rid of a double shell no matter how accurate I calibrate.  I did a quick low quality scan of the same object one laser at a time and the right laser scans slightly bigger in width and depth than the left laser.  I think what I read said I needed to change one of the measurements in the setup but I can not remember what one changed the width.  The height of both scans looks to be the same.  The attached picture should illustrate the problem.  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks,

Bob

The scan from the right laser is on the left.

Re: Scan Size Difference

The width (diameter) of the resulting scan is related to the Right or Left "Laser X" value, which is the distance between the laser and the camera.

Assuming you already calibrated the lasers using the calibration tool, put a straight edge across the face of the camera, spanning from one laser to the other and measure the distance from the center of the laser body to the center of the camera lens.  Enter those values in the setup page.

You may find that the left and right distance are not exactly the same, which may account for the difference between the 2 laser outputs.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...

Re: Scan Size Difference

I did calibrate using the calibration tool and the checkerboard pattern. That was exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks a lot.

Re: Scan Size Difference

This worked perfectly.  At least on my test object which is a screw since it was a cylinder shape so it made it easy to see the double shell.  Changing the right laser X value from 4.95 to 4.96 made the difference.  Does it make sense that a change so small  had that much of an effect?  Thanks again,

Bob
