Topic: Davinci 1.0 will only move left

My Davinci 1.0 will only move left on the x axis and when its ment to move right it stops and then continues in the left directions as if it completed the right movement.

Sounds like you need a new endstop

New endstop or maybe loose or damaged harness for said endstop.

I'm sorry but I'm quite new to working on 3D printers could you explain what does this endstop do, I found the replasment part but I'd like to know what it does.

Re: Davinci 1.0 will only move left

There are three endstops in the printer and they tell the printer when the head is in the home position. If one of those malfunction during operation it marks that point on that axis as the new home position and the head will not move past it.

One is at the right end of the X carriage. that is the part that moves forward and backwards. This one tells the machine the X axis is home.

One is at the back left of the machine that the X carriage hits when all the way back and tells the machine the Y axis is home.

The other is located on the frame just over the back of the bed and tells the machine when the Z axis is home.

Also just to note. Unless the endstop is a factory endstop from XYZ or a supplier, it will not work with a stock XYZ controller. The endstops the XYZ printers use are not standard and unique only to XYZ printers.

Re: Davinci 1.0 will only move left

Ok so would I have to contact xyz about buying new ones or is there now way to get them? Also is it possible that the wires me just be messed up I've checked and they seem to be all connected properly and tight but I read in some cases there broke in the inside?

To check the wires you would need a continuity meter and measure from the sensor to the mainboard for continuity while flexing the harness. Usually requires more than two hands.

For the sensors you would need to contact XYZ or make a post here in the XYZ section as I know many have upgraded their machines to other controllers which means they had to use non XYZ sensors and should have them available.

Thank you so much I will look into it as soon as I can and will tell the results.

Contact XYZ? Do the Da Vinci printers use endstops different than this one?

The Da Vinci uses optical endstop and they are unique in that there are no current limiting resistors on them for the IR LED or the phototransistor. They are on the mainboard instead.

Third party opto have the current limiting resistors onboard. That also makes it so they will not work on a Da vinci as now the current is too low to drive the IR LED. In short you would need to remove or bridge the current limiters on a third party and then match the pinout which also is not standard from the Da Vinci.

Re: Davinci 1.0 will only move left

Okay so I replace the endstop and it still messed up but then I check the wires and the wires were busted and so I replaced them with some wires I had laying around. However now it makes a really weird noise when going on the x-axis like as if it was hitting the wall, and shifts just as much but will at least move in the right direction. Could this be because I used a higher gauge wire, it's also copper stranded I don't know if this could affect it I put a video of it trying to print a tiny shield and you can see it is all messed up. https://youtu.be/-QAdea9B-AY ps: the black stuff on the bed is ABS glue.

Re: Davinci 1.0 will only move left

As per my experience actually there are three endstops in the printer which informs about the status of the printer.
If one of those malfunction during operation it marks that point on that axis as the new home position and the head will not move past it.
One tells the machine the X axis is home and second tells the machine the Y axis is home.
And third gives the indication when the Z axis is home.

You said you replaced the endstop, where did you get the endstop from? Only those aquired from XYZ or from another XYZ printer will work for these machines. Regular third party endstops will not work.

Re: Davinci 1.0 will only move left

Ok I fixed it first of I got it from the spare on that detected that the top door was closed since I didn't need it anymore because I flashed it I just took it off and replaced it. The real problem wasn't the end stop it was actually the wires that led to the end stop and to the stepper motor. I had talked to XYZ and they shipped me some wires however they were they wrong kind, I think they were for the newer one however I just cut it off and put the old plug on it and it works just fine. However now unrelated to this other problem the filament won't go through the extruder properly. Even if I take it out and have it heated and I try pushing it through by hand it doesn't come out as smooth as it supposed to or like it does on my other ones. Any suggestions,?

Sounds like you got some filament stuck in there. The stock da vinci hotend isnt that good. If its heated up and the filament is starting to smelt higher up in the tube, it will get stuck there.

If printing with ABS:
Remove the hotend and strip it down. Put the hotend and the filament tube in acetone and keep it in there for a while, just shake it some every 10 minute, find something that will fit inside the tube and drag it thrue, repeat it until there is no more plastic stuck in there.

If printing with PLA:
Find something that fits inside the tube and grind it until all pla is gone.
