Topic: Cannot apt-get update

Hi whilst I am waiting for Uriah on my wifi problem I thoght I would update the rpi but I get a message saying I cannot as I do not have permission must be root (or words to that affect) so can anyone explain how to do this as I am a total noobie at this. The reason I am trying to up date is I think the wifi driver is missing.

I would also like to say that the Atlas3D works fine and I am impressed by the scans that I have done following Pirvan,s instructions although I have not fully calibrated it yet as I would like to get the wifi working first so that I dont have to sit in on the floor in front of a 42 tv and it is not practical to have the ethernet cable all the time
Thanks in advance

Re: Cannot apt-get update

sudo apt-get update (you must use sudo).

update won't get you the wifi drivers, you will need ti install them explicitly if they are missing.  Search for info about your wifi dongle.  Most are supported now, but some were not in older versions.

Hi Graham sorry I was using sudo I was following a set of instructions that said to get update then upgrade first thats where I have come stuck as I thought the drivers would be in there

Re: Cannot apt-get update

Graham,
.
i might suggest starting with the latest Raspian image  (https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/).  I started there and my wifi dongle worked first time right out of the box (with a little help from https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati … s-cli.md).
