Topic: Empty walls ?

Hello,

I'm printing a case for a project ... it's basically a bottom and walls with scew holes.
Bottom went pretty fine (well after I adjusted the bed and put some acetone on the platform for ABS to stick).

But now it's doing the walls and ... well the walls are empty ... it does the outer perimeter, the holes perimeter, and goes to the next layer.

What's wrong ? (I'm using the default software for SD).

Re: Empty walls ?

With very thin walls you can have a problem where the width of the walls doesn't divide evenly by the width of the thread, so after the perimeters are done, there isn't enough space to draw fill.  Skeinforge doesn't deal with this very well, but Slic3r should fill them in.

Re: Empty walls ?

Oooookkk ... so now I need to find Slic3r and also a tutorial on how to use it ...
Is there a tutorial for Slic3r using the SD2 ?

Thomas.

PS : the walls are 1.5mm thick ...

Re: Empty walls ?

Installed Slic3r ... everything seems fine in the Printer Interface, I can see the layers in the center of the platform, etc.
But when I click print, it homes the axes, then goes full speed in X and Y and shoot the frame on the opposite side ...

You have to go through and setup slic3r too.  Create different profiles for layer thickness, speeds, etc.

Re: Empty walls ?

Hello,

Did it, installed and configured Slic3r ...

I installed a Gcode viewer to check, the gcode that Slic3r output seems good.
But the Gcode that Skeinforge outputs contains some "wrong" Gcode :

G21
G91
G1 X200.0 F3000
G1 Y200.0 F3000
G1 X-82.0 Y-76.0 F3000
G1 Z-200.0 F500
G1 Z5.0 F500
G1 Z-10.0 F250
G90
G92 X0 Y0 Z0 E0
G90

This seems to be fake Gcode to indicate "something" to the printer interface, but don't know what ...

Re: Empty walls ?

Solidoodle has a configured download of Repetier Host and profiles for Slic3r.  Unfortunately they have only posted it on their blog, and never put it in the Software Installation page.

Try this download- http://www.solidoodle.com/wp-content/up … ctions.zip

Repetier Host is much easier to use than Pronterface.

Re: Empty walls ?

Hello,

I managed to get it to work with Slic3r output (I mean Printer Interface) ... so far not so bad so I'll let it finish and install Repetier after.

Holes are far from perfect, but at least the walls are not empty anymore.

Thomas.

Try changing the fill and infill modes, but be carefull wrong settings in there will cause software to crash or bad mesh creation.

Re: Empty walls ?

My parts are small so I set Slic3r to do a solid fill on every layer. Yes, it takes a bit longer but on the size stuff I print what's 3 or 5 minutes more? Most of the time I'm multi-tasking anyway, runing the 3D2, laser cutter, two printers and doing design work or system maintenace so the extra SD2 print time doesn't matter.

Re: Empty walls ?

Hello,

I disassembled and reassembled the whole Y axis, it was almost locked from factory ................

Now it's working a LOT better.

Where was it stuck? We can send this info to our QA team.

Former Solidoodle employee, no longer associated with the company.

The intermediate shaft is driven by the stepper and drives the 2 Y axis belts was very hard to turn by hand ... there was a misalignment between the shaft and the 2 supporting "bearings".
