Topic: Camera Resolution

Is there a way t select a different camera resolution, other than thre resolution already provided?

For example, I'd like to try a 1900px or a 2048px width still.  In other words a resolution somewhere between 1.9mp and 5mp.  2048 x 1536 would be a good 3mp middle of the road.

My problem is that 5mp resolution almost always gives me these scans with lots of missing bands ( mentioned this in another thread).  But when I do 1.9mp scans, they don't have this problem.

I think the problem is related to memory and/or resources (or lack thereof), so maybe a resolution somewhere in between might not suffer from these problems.

Re: Camera Resolution

I think the ultimate solution is to resolve the issue with 5MP.  I was side tracked with a couple new features for the next release but now I am focusing on this particular issue and plan on resolving it before the next software release.

Re: Camera Resolution

@pirvan, I just committed a fix for the issue where gaps could occur in the 5MP mode.  Please let me know how it works for you.

Re: Camera Resolution

This seems to work quite well.  I'll do a few more complex scans and post the results.

Once again, thanks for your great work.

BTW, what was causing the problem?

Re: Camera Resolution

Under certain conditions the software would throw out a laser line instead of relying upon the laser range selection logic to make sense of it.  This was previously used in combination with the logic that would "rescan" when it detected a problem.  However, that was removed a release or two ago due to the slow down it caused and the number of false positives.  Since the logic was no longer there to rescan, the result was that the laser line was completely dropped.  This issue was more likely to occur with 5MP since there are more opportunities to trigger the "throw out condition", but all of the modes were susceptible to it.  I have updated to logic so that the laser line is now retained under these conditions and the laser range selector seems to be doing a decent job of figuring things out.

Re: Camera Resolution

Here is a scan I did with v1.9.

The scan was done at 5MP, and 2400 steps / revolution.  It took approximately 70 minutes to complete and generated a 45MB PLY file.

IN the photo below, you can see (from left to right), a snapshot of the camera view, the raw PLY point cloud, poisson disk sample and the reconstructed poisson mesh.

Not too bad, considering the complexity of the model. smile
