Topic: Lost IP

I had been running my Atlas 3D using Chrome but this morning I've got nothing. I checked for the IP using a keyboard and monitor running through an HDMI cable.

When I enter "ifconfig" there is no longer a reference to any IP. "Inet Addr:" is gone.

I moved the USB dongle to another slot and tried again but still I get no IP.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Re: Lost IP

Try plugging the wifi dongle into your computer and see if it still works/ is recognized.... Sometimes those things burn out really easily.

Re: Lost IP

They do burn out easily - I'm on my second one already

Re: Lost IP

Darn that's too bad. It sounds like some flaky components in these kits.

I haven't even used my scanner yet and I've lost a laser due to a wire coming out from the body of the laser and now the WiFi dongle, damn.

I have them both on order but no due date, so I sit and wait, thinking about the day I may actually get to use this thing. :-(

Re: Lost IP

Just to clarify - my dongle was not from the kit.  Seems as if wifi dongles on a Pi can be problematic.

Re: Lost IP

KennyB, are you looking at the wlan0 area and not eth0?  Have you tried running the Wifi configuration tool in the GUI?  This should at least let you know if the hardware is detected, what Wifi access points are in the area, and what the signal strength is.

Re: Lost IP

Yes I'm looking in the waln0 area.

I'm not sure about your second question as to the "WiFi configuration tool in the GUI"? I'n not sure what you mean or how to accomplish that.

The WiFi access port is on my WiFi range extender that everything I have runs on. The signal strength is five bars.

As I mentioned before I had it talking to my laptop and my desktop through Chrome and it worked great. The next time I turned it on I got nothing.

I tried plugging the dongle into different USB ports on the RPi and still got nothing.

Re: Lost IP

When you run lsusb with the Wifi adapter plugged in do you see a line like the following?

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

Did you try to plug the dongle in to your PC, not the Pi? The point is to see if the dongle is good.

Re: Lost IP

I'm not sure what happened but my dongle came back to life and I'm now able to run my Atlas 3D with the web browser on my lap top.

Thanks to all that contributed.
