Re: Electronics Wiring Not Explained
Haha, I knew it would be something easy. Funny enough....I couldn't find it on google. Thanks Tim!

I'm having trouble figuring out which wire out of my power supply is positive.!
The PID will work either way you hook up 9 and 10.
You just need the drive motor turning the right direction and the fan working.
so first drawing and PD are for MYPIN temperature controlet that has port 11 and 12 nothing connectet tho them, and other are for taht SESTO type controller ? am i right guys ![]()
im new here
Wiring diagrams are included with the kit instructions - there's no reason to use the ones in this ancient thread.
Can someone post a photo of it wired ?
Can someone post a photo of it wired ?
sorry but i can make sense of all the various sciatics im coming across i have the most recent version of the winder and extruder and i would really appreciate if some one can provide actual photos of how to set up the wiring correctly
What's a "sciatic"?
Pictures don't work well, they only end up causing mistakes as they don't show wires crossing under/over very well.
There's a step by step section right under the wiring diagram. Which step are you having trouble with?
What's a "sciatic"?
You have some nerve asking that!
I'm also having a REALLY hard time with trying to find out how to wire this up. I just got the filastruder last week and have the Sestos D1S-2R-24 controller in my build.
I am a new media artist, NOT an electrician, although I do wire up LED projects with Arduinos and Raspberry Pis. I've been randomly googling and trying to get verbal step by step instructions on what to connect where and/or step by step photos of how to wire this.
The following (from earlier in the thread, and which was only in June, so I thought would apply to my kit, but does not) is the style of directions that I can understand. Photos of what it looks like wired would be an even better plus. Photos of step by step would have been a goldmine!
... BUT...
My controller does not have a Terminal 2. Please help/update on what needs to happen to make my filastruder build happen.
John,
Sorry the diagram was confusing. I'll try to take it step by step.
The power supply has two wires on its output - red (positive) and black (negative).
Black goes straight to terminal 2 on the PID, where it is joined by 3 other wires - one heater wire (either, heaters dont have polarity), the black fan wire, and a wire to the motor terminal (the one with the red dot near it)
Red goes to the center pin of both switches.
One of the outside pins of one of the switches goes to terminal 1 on the PID.
One of the outside pins of the other switch goes to the red fan wire, as well as the other motor terminal.Connect a jumper from terminals 1 to 4 of the PID.
Connect the other heater wire to terminal 3 of the PID.So:
Terminal 1 of the PID has 2 wires under it
Terminal 2 of the PID has 4 wires under it
Terminals 3 and 4 each have 1 wire under them
The first switch has 2 wires on the center terminal, one wire on one of the outside terminals (either is ok)
The second switch has 1 wire on the center terminal, two wires on one of the outside terminals (either is ok)Hope that helps!
The following (from earlier in the thread, and which was only in June,
June 2013, yes...
Photos of wiring are a really bad means of communication, as wires cross over each other, etc.
If you can't understand the schematic (which should be straightforward, as each line just represents a wire), there's step by step instructions too, as part of the PDF for your kit. Here they are again:
Positive of the power supply goes to the center pin of Switch-1 (SW1).
A wire goes from outer pin of SW1 to outer pin of the SW2, and to Pin 9 of the PID controller.
A jumper wire goes from Pin 8 to Pin 9 of the PID controller.
A wire goes from center pin of SW2 to the extruder fan red wire and to In(+) on the Stall Protection Board.
The motor fan red wire goes to In(+) on the Stall Protection Board.
The motor fan black wire goes to In(-) on the Stall Protection Board.
A wire goes from In(-) on the Stall Protection Board to Pin 10 of the PID.
The extruder fan black wire connects to Pin 10 on the PID.
One of the heater wires connects to Pin 10 of the PID.
The power supply's negative wire connects to Pin 10 on the PID.
The other heater wire connects to Pin 7 on the PID.
A wire goes from Out(+) to one motor terminal.
A wire goes from Out(-) to the other motor terminal.
Connect thermocouple, be mindful of the polarity, to Pins 3/4 of the PID.
As for this thread, and what you quoted, you're trying to apply a 5 year old instruction to the current version. Not applicable.
OK, so what set of directions should I be using, if the said 5 year old ones are not applicable? I'm not trying to be a smartass, but there were no paper directions included in my kit and it's been difficult following your instructions, but I am managing.
I do have one last question. In the verbal steps for the electronics, in Step #4 it says to follow diagram for Figure 2, which I did. The next line in Step 4 says,
"Use remaining wire from Step 2/3 to provide power to the stall protection board, the jumper providing power to the second switch, and the jumper from terminal 8 to 9 on the controller."
Does that mean that those wires are not included in the wiring diagram and that I now have to add them? You say that you want us to go by the diagram, but then the second part of Step 4 in unclear if it is in addition to the diagram or has already been included in the diagram.
I'll stop bothering you after this question. I just don't want to cause harm to myself or anyone else if I don't do this step correctly.
OK, so what set of directions should I be using
The appropriate ones for your kit, the ones the paper included with the kit described downloading. The link is stickied in this subforum, also linked on the product page.

All wiring is contained in the wiring diagram. Step 4 is discussing aspects of the wiring diagram, pointing out areas that need wire.
If you're confused, follow the step by step instructions, and let me know which step you are stuck on/not understanding.
I went through your Step-by-Step directions on page 9 of the 2.1d directions. I am having trouble starting with the 2nd sentence in Step 4 on Page 7, starting with "Use remaining wire from Step 2/3..."
I'm not understanding if I now need to connect these parts to power (I currently have them connected to SW1 center, which is coming from power), or leave them as they were after going through the Page 9 step-by-step directions.
