I agree with yizhou.he, I would be great if you can figure out how to put opensource firmware on these machine, specifically the Jr and mini.

Thank you!
Is there any open source firmware available to try?

It was being worked on by another group here, but I am not sure how far they got. There is no open source of the firmware so they where trying to pin out the board and adapt a variation of Repetier firmware. The only way to get an open source of the firmware is to pull it from the CPU by JTAG then decompile it. Of course you would need to know what they compiled it with to do so. I remember reading a recent thread where they did decompile some firmware for a newer XYZ but I don't recall which printer it was for. There are so many of these little runts now I honestly think a section should be made in the XYZ section for each model and then related threads be moved there. Might be easier to keep up with models and what has been done with that model.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

If I remeber correctly Daniel was the one who first dumped the eeprom. He also showed us which pages in the eeprom holds the tag data and even went as far as doing quite a bit of testing of using his printer without the eerprom even after firmware upgrades. I believe nilezon is the person who actually decompiled the firmware to start with and gave us all access to his great password/pack code generation tools. If my old memory serves me correctly he has a "Mini"? Cut me some slack as I am an old timer.

Currently pyr0ball is working on this.

pyr0ball also have amazing killing in hardware and reverse engineering.

Currently, only RepRapFirmware for duet wifi is opensource and support Jr. and mini CPU.

https://github.com/dc42/RepRapFirmware/ … uctions.md

I think pyr0ball have mapped out all the pins possible, but he is not expert on JTAG programming. We are trying to decode the communication between U2 and U17 and have some progress but have not confirmed yet.

I think the next step is to modify RepRapFirmware with the pin mapped by pyr0ball and test if the communication we decoded is real or not. But LUC stop showing up and pyr0ball is on vacation now.

That's the summary for now, I think Nilezon's expertise in JTAG can be very helpful if he is interested. However, the pin mapped is for Jr. but not for mini, so I don't know if the JTAG communication protocol is the same.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

If you could share any pin mapping you may have. It may be of some help in determing if the pinouts are similar. The way if nilezon does go through his printers firmware he may be able to easily identify any similarities.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

I may missed some pins, go through the original post if I missed anything. Also the pin for JTAG communication is described in the post.

Warning:
Be careful if power on after wipe the FW, the extruder is on and heating without any control, you better disconnect it

Also this version is based on Marlin but don't have LCD support but have WebUI, so some modification is needed for LCD support.

Hey!

New to this form, I read the first portion of this thread and was curious.  Is there a way to simply write the NFC data from an existing filament spool into something like an ntag213 sticker rather than using a more expensive emutag? I haven't really explored the idea of rewriting a tag with the concept.  But the cost of something like a roll of stickers is considerably cheaper than an emutag.

In short - no.

The card password and more importantly PACK code are derived from the card uid.
The card uid is fixed and cannot be changed on normal NTAG cards - it can on an EMUTAG.

Hi, I am new to 3D printing and forum, many thanks for all of the experts in this forum, glad to learn much about the my XYZprinter da vinci mini w (firmware 1.2.2). I want find a economic and easy way to print with 3'rd party filament.

I am not a programmer or an experts of computer.  After doing some homework, here I am looking for some answers for next move:

1. Can I buy any type/source/brand of cheap NTAG213 sticker, and it will be OK? (I am not familiar with NTAG types)
2. Is there any android phone app that can write the tag more easily or quicker? (maybe import/paste the page data instead of type each page one by one)
3. I am thinking is it necessary to buy a RFID NFC card reader? (just for tag reset, then I wont have to buy/borrow a android phone, I am a iphone user:P)
4. If with RFID NFC card reader, any recommended software to modify the NTAG? (Mac or win10) It would be faster to write info into NTAG, right?

Below is what I have done and the status of the printer, for reference.

I've do some home work on tag resetting for few days(although not all threads, that's too much information). I did successful reset tag to 200M with an android phone. But the da vinci mini  returns error message about the re-filled tag when printing. Then I read some thread, I know it would not just recognize as a new filament and go printing.
After that, I read about some options for davinci mini w,  EMUTag or NTAG213 sticker are preferred due to my poor skills. For a beginner, I would chose later one, which is cheaper. I need some indication for further moves.

BTW, I am in Taiwan, and I can't find any one post in Tag swap thread also in Taiwan. lol
I am not native English speaker. Please kindly tell me if I described something not correct or miss something important. Thanks for your time.

1. Can I buy any type/source/brand of cheap NTAG213 sticker, and it will be OK? (I am not familiar with NTAG types) - Yes, any cheap NTAG213 paper tag should work as long as it is updatable.

3. I am thinking is it necessary to buy a RFID NFC card reader? (just for tag reset, then I wont have to buy/borrow a android phone, I am a iphone user:P) - Yes, if you do not want to use a phone or want an easier method than a phone a NTAG reader/writer would be a good choice.

4. If with RFID NFC card reader, any recommended software to modify the NTAG? (Mac or win10) It would be faster to write info into NTAG, right? - I am not 100% sure but I believe someone has written an app for the phone that would inport a text file that would make the updating easier, but myself I use a NTAG reader/writer and have written my own software for it.

Thanks for the reply! I still have some questions.
When I serching the NFC card reader, I am confused. There seem many kind of "spec" for NFC card reader to support. I did not see any seller describe it can read/write NTAG213, but they say the reader support some kind of spec/protocol/ISO. I checked some info about NTAG213. NTAG213 is designed to fully comply to NFC Forum Type 2 Tag and ISO/IEC14443 Type A specifications. (https://www.nxp.com/products/identifica … 13_215_216).

Does that mean I can just buy a NFC card reader which support read/write "NFC Forum Type 2 Tag and ISO/IEC14443 Type A" spec?

And I find few reader:
one of them is "ACR122U" (https://www.amazon.com/ACS-ACR122U-Cont … B01KEGQFYY)
I guess this one is OK?
and I supose one of following windows app would work? (http://windowsreport.com/windows-8-nfc-apps/)

Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

If I remeber correctly one of these threads tells you exactly what is needed for this. You can buy a Arduino Nano and a small NFC board for much less than anything you will purchase. With that being said you have to be willing to solder these pieces together to make them work.

So I went this route.  I purchased an pn532 card from amazon, I had a Arduino Nano, designed a 3d printed box and put it all together.  I still needed firmware, so I purchased an RFID code package from someone on ebay.  All in all, I did not save much and I still did not have a windows app to act as the front end.

So, If Mr Clown or cgrillo still sell their complete solution, it is well worth it.  It is a proven solution.

If not, there is an instructable by cgrillo that helps out in making one.

First, thanks all of your works again. I totally believe their solutino is the best chioce. It just...I am far away cross the ocean. It would take long time for waiting the delivery. A hardware solution is kind of out of my knowledge. That's why I thought I might able to collect available tools locally and make them works. Looks it is a naive idea. haha
I'll take all the suggestions and re-considering.

What does it mean?
I am planing to buy Mr Clown or cgrillo's solution, but with this sticker? can it work???

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

Ok, for starters you have not authenticated the sticker. The password for new stickers is set to "FF FF FF FF". Once you enter the password in the app you should be able to read/write to it.

Yes, cgrillo's solution works with stickers. I have done it myself.

I think you get your password wrong. The 3rd number for UID should be 0F instead of OF,

UID:  04 BD 0F 4A 6D 51 80

KEY:  FE 21 C6 24

PACK: F3 65

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

If this tag has already been in the printer then it cannot be modified and used again. The printer stores the tag UID's and some other information to prevent used modified tags. You need to get EMU Tag, paper tags or Magic Tag to have the ability to use third party filament.

Thank you for the info

where and how to find its elements? in order to use filament from another brand

Re: XYZ Printing Da Vinci Jr (w) / Da Vinci Mini (w) Hacking

Seems your options have increased since you have been gone. Nilezon has cracked the password and pack code creation. So you now can purchase a EMU Tag, Paper Tags or a Magic tag and keep right on printing. With his crack you can enter any UID get the password and pack code update any of the three options and start printing. The paper tags come with a UID already assigned to them and it cannot be modified.

You can check out the following thread to see his discovery in action.  http://www.soliforum.com/topic/16909/xy … nfckeyxyz/
