Now the Kinect 2.0 is out and is supposed to have better resolution.

I haven't tried the xbox one kinect, this might give better results. You'll need a pc adapter and windows 8 to use it though.
Another option is a xtion pro live which works with various scanning apps like Skanect. I'm considering trying this myself.
