You can feed external filament through the hole on the back, and then thread through the cable opening into the main chamber. (Instead of the normal filament spool hole)

Lastly, the top cover stays open, inner cover can be open or closed.

(since the SD starter filament is crap, and they haven't shipped any additional filament anyway).

Removal of that tray would probably void one's warranty, but it  might prevent the cable bundle from being such an issue, and probably allow more air flow for preventing overheating.
