EDIT: Cleaned and greased all the rods. Took belts off and tested the motor, runs fine. Attached motor belt to back rod, spins fine. Attached side belts and binds.

Finally got the above items and now I am having the same problems with x-y-z setup.  keeps binding in x-z and wont even move in x.  I'm continuing to run slicer.  I have found zero online support and finally logged into the forum and seeing similar problems.

I've had a Solidoodle 2 for two years and it runs great so I am still ambitious. 

Solidoodle needs to come up with a readily available setup video state.  I bought this printer in August, just received it and it still does not have proper setup instructions.  Once someone gets it up and running please share as I am only tech savvy enough to follow successful instructions.

The only difference is your machine has closed loop belts and belt tension is adjusted at the front on the idler pulley brackets, as opposed to on the extruder carriage. Since I don't own a workbench I don't know if they are the same as the SD4, but I'll assume tbey are.

The SD4 has idler brackets at the front with 2 screws for the adjusting tension of the belts. You need to make sure the pulley is straight. Since there are 2 bolts it's possible to tilt the pulley. Adjust the tension there, keeping the pulleys straight, and the rest of the video is exactly the same. Your Y motor might require a 2mm hex wrench instead of a 2.5mm, at least my SD4 did.

Sounds to me like you need to balance and align the belts.  Then try and reduce any friction or binding that is happening.  If that doesn't help adjust the VREF for that axis.  Often times skipping is caused by overextruding.  This causes the nozzle to drag on the print forcing the axis to skip.  If the nozzle is dragging you need to calibrate your Steps per mm have a look at the WIKI once that's done calibrate your extrusion multiplier via a single wall calibration cube.
There are no shortcuts to quality prints so calibrate, calibrate then calibrate some more.

My issue now is the print head eventually causes the print to break loose at some point during the print

Anyone else having this issue?

i've tried both ABS and PLA , used liberal amount of glue stick on heated bed at 110C  extruder temp at 210C

Printed PLA on heated bed at 65C with extruder temp at 210C  using ColorFabb PLA/PHA

I have owned a solidoodle 2 since January of 2013 and decided to upgrade to a larger print area, dual-extruder, etc.

The 'instructions' included basically tell you to go to the website which provides no support for workbench or apprentice owners. When I attempted to run the machine, the y axis was bound and I had to tram the rails to get any motion. After which I spent a couple of hours adjusting the rails until the carriage moved smoothly and there were no missed steps.

I am generally frustrated now and opened this thread to determine how other customers' workbenches are running. I will be opening a couple of additional threads for specific issues I have encountered.
