Yep, their web pages are definitely designed for corporate purchasing agents who understand the jargon. Somewhere in there they demanded a fax number as well (I don't have a fax number, so I just used my phone number again). But the parts all seem to be very nice. I'm real close to being able to print again with all new carriages and a direct drive in Y, just have to get the bed level fixed up, and I may have to do something about the hot end possibly being able to wobble slightly in the new mk5 extruder (but there are lots of hints about fixing that scattered around this forum).

I disagree about McMaster being universally more expensive - for example, I just specced a standard 10mm shaft collar: $1.97 from McMaster, $2.09 from Misumi. An 80MXL belt: $2.57 from McMaster, $3.30 from Misumi. I'd say they're pretty similar, it just depends on the specific part.

My point is they all have significant markups - that knowledge comes from a few years of sourcing directly from manufacturers, both here in North America and in Asia.

Misumi's gross profit in 2014 was $74 Billion on $190 Billion in revenue. Net profit was $18 Billion.

They're doing just fine.

I just ordered 8x LMU8 bearings from these folks because some of the cheap Chinese ones I got have developed slop and squealing (which I've sadly narrowed down to the bearing and not any other component )

Glad to hear it will be high quality stuff. At almost $6 a bearing, it better be!!

I just unpacked a bunch of stuff I ordered from Misumi to do the new carriages and Y direct drive mods to my SD2, and can't believe how insanely packaged it all was. One big box with inflated padding, with small boxes (sealed with mass quantities of packing tape) or padded envelopes inside. The shafts I ordered were in the smaller boxes with Styrofoam peanuts, holding rolled up foam sheets, holding sealed plastic bags holding the shafts. The bearings were merely inside plastic bags inside the padded envelope. Hard to believe they can make a profit as much as they spent on packing everything (or course, I still haven't found out how much the shipping charge was because their web pages don't include that, and they still haven't charged my credit card).

Everything certainly looks very nice and high quality. The shafts are certainly very straight and shiny. I'll see how it all goes together in the coming days.
