Since I'm a competitive shooter, all of the lubricants I have on hand are firearms related. They will all work since they are all designed to withstand a degree of heat without breaking down or losing any of their lubricating capabilities. The one I'm using is Frog Lube paste. I like it for a number of reasons; being a paste, it adheres well and doesn't drip off like liquids will. It is an extremely durable lube...a small amount goes a long way, and you can apply it with a small modelling paintbrush for even coverage. Best of all, it's got a great, spearmint scent, is completely biodegradable and food safe. Since I am printing a lot of small toys and things for my Grandchildren, I don't want to use anything that may wind up on the print and ultimately in their mouths

I use white lithium myself on a stock DaVinci 1.0.

I doubt it makes any real difference what you use as long as you keep after it, but I prefer the white lithium for two reasons. First is that it easily sticks to any surface and doesn't tend to "fall off" onto somewhere that would be an issue like the build platform. Second is that it gets blacker over time due to the particles thrown off by the ABS being printed. Which makes it very easy to spot old grease that I need to wipe off and reapply (yes, I use way too much of the stuff when I apply it).

I use Singer sewing machine oil. It seems just like 3 in 1 oil. I oil the rods every 50 hours, move all the bushings back and forth twice and wipe the rods once with a dry paper towel. I have 4 machines with over 500 hours each and no noticeable wear. I think 50 hours is a little to ofter but theses machines are used 24/7 and expected to last a few years.

I just greased the shafts of my sd3 afteri was noticing some binding and fucked up prints where the print would shift unexpectedly my first print was good though i think i need to work on my repetier host programing skills. no shifts in the prints lets hope the next one goes as well

i used a white lithium grease spread it on the shafts after the bearings then ran it through 2 cycles of the x and y axis then removed excess from around the bearings. seems to be fine now

How often (monthly, printer hours, etc.) should I expect to need to re-grease the axes?

^^^ that's right liquid wrench 3 in 1 oil is the oil I use!

I use silicon grease like they use for airsoft rifles. It holds up better under higher temps that are reached in the cabinet. 3 in 1 oil also works well just rub a light coat on with your fingers. Then let the normal action do the rest.

If it is getting squeaky as you say it is probably the x axis idler pulley not the slides, though it can't hurt to lube them too. Here is a link about how to fix the pulley:

I have the bearing setup that's above. It works great! As for lubing everything else I use a white lithium grease for the shafts and for the z axis screw i have some general purpose oil I use mixed with a small amount of white lithium.

Hi,

I have had my da vinci for about 1.5 months now and been noticing it getting more squeaky lately ....so I think it's time for some lubrication but with what? I have been searching threads and found quite a few suggestions but I'am still unsure what to use exactly. Would dry-ptfe based grease work? Or is there something better to use? Would like to be able to pick it up from the local hardware store though.
