Hello everyone - my first post and this thread is the main reason for my registering on the forum, although looking around this seems to be the place to be.

I think I'm about to buy a single extruder Da Vinci but would appreciate some clarification please so I can do so with a bit more confidence. My goal is to print in ABS (mainly, happy to mod it later for PLA or other materials) without being tied to XYZ's proprietary filament.

I was about to confidently order a 1.0 from Amazon until I read on Voltivo that XYZ had updated the printer to the 1.0A model including a different electronic control board rendering (temporarily perhaps) the old firmwares and alternative (repetier etc) incompatible, not to mention as mentioned here, no route back to stock firmware after flashing.

Given that eventually the clever guys over on Voltivo (and no doubt here also) will crack this, is it worth holding out for an old model printer or getting the new one now?

Is the cartridge resetter really still working OK on the latest model and is it possible to adjust (via the cartridge programming) the bed and extruder temperatures to allow different materials to be used?

Any advice would be really appreciated. :-)

I can't be certain but I thought I read somewhere there is a working version of repetier working on this model.  I have the newer one (1.0.3 - 1.0A on the display).  My understanding is the older firmware will not work on this but I have not tried nor think I will at this point.

I just recently purchased the XYZZEROCART from WCtek.com.

It works well and lets me set the temps for the extruder and the heat bed.  I picked this model to have it done wirelessly.  I just block the XYZ software as others have mentioned and all works well.

So far I am enjoying my printer.  It is odd how much time I find myself just watching it work.  Lol.

I'm curious to this myself. I am on 1.0.3 and just ordered the arduino to build the reseter. I hope to have it built early next week and will report back. If I can't reset and use my own filament then this thing is going back. I love it and all but there is no way I am paying twice the market price for ABS. The ROI on a more open source printer is pretty quick when you look at the total lifecycle cost of the "cheaper" davinci, but that's their business model.

I am not sure of all re-setters but the XYZZEROCART works well with 1.0A.  You need to block the software with your firewall.

Now I have got a really big problem. It doesn't work anymore. Now I need the 1.0.3 Firmware.
Does anybody know where I can get it?

I have the same one and I flashed the firmware and messed it up and this is how I got it working.
Get the boot loader to come up on the printer by pressing the up and down arrow and then power it up,
if it does the usb will work again and you maybe able to use the xyzware to re-flash it.

It might work but you have to block XYZWARE from accessing the internet using a firewall.

that is your best bet. I think there is a working firmware for repetier at least please update us of your findings so others may get their machines going again.

It does not exist right now. No one has been able to rip the original from the device yet, and they are still working on a Repetier version due to XYZ changing pin-outs to screw the previous release. Apparently XYZ thinks they are in a war of some kind to prevent users from jail breaking their units. They still think the cartridges are the right method of marketing.

I recently discovered the 1.0A version as it stated that it could also print PLA.

I very much want to hack it not wanting to get tied to cartridges etc, curious to know why the second poster said not to flash it? has the firmware been changed on the 1.0A as many do re flash the 1.0 with repetier and feel they get much better results
