That's about right. It's not a cheap board. I got it from RRD. and there is one person here who has broken one twice  wink I shan't call them out tongue

There is info on the forums but if you have specific questions either post here or feel free to shoot me a PM. I've set it up successfully on my machine.

I hope you have confirmed the driver is indeed busted. It would suck to go through all the effort and still not have a working machine. But the RUMBA will improve your printing life and quality big time big_smile

You will also need a better PSU. I recommend the 12v 360w supernight, it's on Amazon. "Need" is a strong word, but you'll have a much better time with a PSU that offers two separate +12V rails (outputs) and the Supernight is a champ. It'll also save you if you make a mistake in wiring--it's saved my board a couple times. But the rumba is tough. I challenge you to break it.

Seems like every third post of mine nowadays is "get the rumba!!" tongue

There are screw terminals where you need it if you're fine with stripping the wires in the printer. It just depends on how plug and play you want versus how much of an improvement you'll see in quality. You won't regret the work you put into installing a RUMBA with DRV8825 drivers. But the most important thing you do at this point is, if you need a motherboard, don't waste your time or money with anything that won't give you 1/32 microstepping. I never would've guessed how much robust drivers on the extruder alone can improve results, but get It on all axes if you can.

No boards are truly plug & play in that they all need a firmware flash to work, but that is pretty straightforward.  While you're at it, consider upgrading to a 1/32 stepper driver for the extruder...

Anyone point me to a good board and the parts needed? Just looking at these boards looks daunting and I dont want to screw up another one.

If you have the Printrboard, and have astonishing soldering skills, you will want a new board. Sanguinololou, RUMBA, and RAMPS are all reliable boards and have been covered throughout the forum. Also, with those boards, if a driver ever fails, you can easily swap them out for a fresh/upgraded driver.

It still seems very odd to me that simply modding up to the E3D caused this...you may wish to try adjusting that vref one last time while commanding the Z moves...

OK...now plug (with power off) the X or Y motor into the Z driver on the board.  Then power up and use the Z manual control to try and move that motor...if it does not work, the Z driver is probably gone.

Sorry, but this is a long process of elimination!
