E3d rocks. Just installed mine. Anyone not using it is doing themselves a disservice. There's a reason high end printers like the Fusion3D use it. The fact that solidoodle designs their own hotends instead of using the e3d is quite hilarious. I would've paid $100 more if my SD4 could've printed almost any material out of the box. But they can't even keep the difference between extruder and hotend straight so their cluelessness is rather obvious.

Picked up some T-Glaise. Can't wait to mess with that stuff.

yep thats my issue also the old hotend wont keep up with flow rates for more than .1mm at 60mm speed to maintain solid fill. so an e3d would fix both issues. there's a new thing on thingaverse its only1mm thick and same size as business card a dinosaur skeleton 3D puzzle velosiraptor. makes a great test for this issue. fastest I can print it and be 100% solid takes 45min. should be under 15min if all works right with flow rates thats why my prints take 2-3 times longer than some.

When did the transition happen? I purchased mine on Sep 2014. Is mine likely to be 0.35 or 0.4? The wiki says to go for 0.42 wall thickness, maybe I should be aiming for 0.48 instead.

Im having similar issues lately and the box test comes out perfect as do all other fine details. tried every slic3r adjustment and still get it. thinking may have a tiny restriction in nozzle moving during retraction or something as most of print is perfect just inner walls have gaps about 30% around. I have the .35 nozzle and like it for my tiny detailed prints. but did run 2 prints of PLA a while back and may have either got a thin piece crystalized on inside or a tiny piece of crud from filament as I have seen a few pieces of like saw dust out of it b4 (its the Solidoodle stuff nuetral bought with printer like over year ago. gonna try another pull N purge tomorrow if this .1mm test print isnt better. well scratch that. the .1mm layer setting fixed all gaps. cant get .3mm near that filled even with all solid infill, layers etc. just gonna take 3 times longer to print my printer parts. any functional printed parts need that kind of solid build for max strength and screw/thread holding.

Judging by his date of registration and assuming he bought his printer in that same time frame he most likely has a .35 if still using his stock hotend. However, if he has changed his hot end since then there is a good chance it is .40.

The only way to know for sure is to check with a drill bit the same size unless it is marked on there somewhere.

You've got some backlash happening there so tightening your belts a bit may help. Also check for wobble on your extruder.
If you have a .40 Nozzle you should be calibrating for .48 wall thickness.
