The motor is rated for 12v. If you decide to push it further, be sure to add cooling. Heat is what kills brushed motors, not voltage (though voltage creates heat).

I did order one last night, thanks !
Question: Motor that i have (the new one) is it rated for 12 or 12 and 24v ?
I ordered regulator 10-50V 40A. Should i get another power supply as well so i would have something to regulate ?

Yes- faster than a 3D printer, even with PLA. I do not know why you are extruding so slowly, presumably because you have lowered temperature to increase diameter. The correct way to increase diameter is to drill out the nozzle, that way output speed is not impacted.

If you want to control motor speed, you can grab a $10 PWM controller from Amazon. Like I have explained previously though, it will not help.

LOL filastruder makes filament faster the 3d printer consumes it ?
Not if you extruding PLA and trying to get a perfect string inserted thru a series of loops all the way into the filawinder FOR HOURS.
Once its there, its there but process is a patience test
4hrs still not winding

What we really need is not the faster motor, but a motor with adjustable speed.
Speed adjustment will solve 90% of diameter problems.
I'd buy one right now, getting very tired to change the world around the motor instead of changing the motor.

The beta and regular gearboxes are rated for similar maximum torque. I was speaking in terms of increasing torque much beyond beta gearbox output. Another factor is that increasing the torque too much will eventually bend the barrel.

Increasing torque doesn't cause an immediate failure, it accelerates wear of the gears. If you keep increasing (say 30% of beta output) then you'll see an immediate failure. So, there's both wear and fracture to consider. One user has actually worn out the gearbox, specifically that white plastic gear - he had over 2500 hours at 12-19v.

Higher speed makes more diameter variations because the plastic is above its melting point longer, so it can be stretched and pulled. There's no formula for it, its just something to be aware of,

I would use the beta gear box, how much percent increase do you think they can handle. I guess the 19V experiments are around 50-75%
Youre right most geared motors in that range are insanly expensive but I also found another DIY extruder which had one huge cog on the auger

What is the relation with higher speed and more diameter variations?

Its not abount running out but about the time i have watch it I have only one room and no extra workspace where I can drop in every hour to see if everything is alright. When I come back from my lectures in the evening Id like to run it 3-4 hour but get an uninterrupted kilo out

You can't get much more out of that gearbox, it isn't rated for more torque (and you'll need more torque to drive at higher RPM).

A larger motor and gearbox will be pricey, and the faster you go the worse diameter variations will be. Just something to be aware of.

I'm confused though - the Filastruder makes filament faster than any 3D printer can consume it. How are you running out of filament?

When I bought the filastruder with a friend we totally underestimated how complicated it is to have the struder running for 6-12 hours when someone has to check on it every now and then on our student schedules thats not really feasible (even with the betamotor).

My wish would be to get a kilo out in 3-4 hours so I was very happy to hear someone report to run the motor on 19V to get an extra kick but to really get a solid reduction a bigger motor needs to bought.

So I just opened the "alpha" gearbox to find a custom shaft and cog inside. That makes a drop in replacement complicated, the gearbox is really excellent and it would of course keep the dimsions of the machine intact.

I also read from someone (which post I cant find anymore) that a 1HP motor was attached which of course is cool on its own and I would really like to see how it was done.
There are also custom motor manufacturers where one theoretically could get the rpm and torque but only with business background and probably at a higher price.

So any ideas or recommendations on how to get and how to implement a bigger motor.
