The extruder connector and wire routing was the first thing I fixed, before it became an issue. On mine, the connector was located and secured in such a way that the already unreliably connector was subject to movement right at the connection point. Took 15 minutes, a $1 connector, and some zip ties to fix. For the price I still think the printer is well worth it and expect there to be more small fixes.

wjflier2 wrote:

I'm sending back my second Da Vinci. First one kept shuting off during print process, Second one, extruder stopped heating up.
I probably won't buy another printer as I really haven't found anything usefull to print other than parts to make another printer.

Anyone really found a pratical use yet, or are you just exploring?

Anyway, I give up, atleast for awhile.

Wjflier2

OP: your second printer sounds like it is simply the connector for you heating element, the connector they use is crap, it is loose and continuity can be hit or miss, it doesn't seem to be rated for the 3amps that the heater pulls and gets hot to the touch. I replaced mine with a deans connector, you can get a good connector from your local rc hobby shop, anything they use for rc is way overkill, thus perfect.

I purchased mine for prototyping and is great for that purpose. I haven't found much outside of printer part that aren't novelty. Use your imagination and model what ever your heart desires.

If you're not experienced with 3d modeling, I would suggest autoCAD inventor, it's free, it's powerful, and has the beginner in mind. CAD is not simple to learn but inventor has a lot of videos to aid you with the basics. Once you know the basics you can draw anything you just may not know the short cuts yet.

I've printed car parts, gun accessories, numerous things for my garage (power tool holders, table saw guides, trim pieces for wood projects), knobs for a buddy's stereo, tanks for Flames of War, vehicles and game pieces for Dystopian Wars, various items for my wife and daughters....

The point is: once you see what a printer can do, you find all sorts of uses for it. Don't give up, perhaps get a different printer.
