I just had the same problems with my SD4 a while back, it would heat up fine and then stop heating after it started printing. It was the wires had broken inside their covering which you could not see from all the constant bending about a half inch from the extruder motor. Do a continuity test of the wires while moving them around as mine would make contact at the home position allowing the extruder to heat then when the head moved and the wires would bend they would loose contact. So far I have had to replace or repair six of the wires in that loom!!

I have a Solidoodle 2 that for the past week has been really temperamental. I have managed to resolve most of the issues but now i have a new one that is keeping me from making any prints. During a print it operates just fine for the first layer or two but not long into the print it just turns off the extruder. After that the only way i have been able to get the extuder back on is too cut power to the printer. I don't think its wiring or power related as it gets up to temp and holds temp fine when not printing. I've updated my firmware to this github.com/ozadr1an/Solidoodle-Marlin_v1 and made the necessary changes to get everything working but so far each print has the same issue. At this point i am considering selling the printer and moving to something else.... Since i have yet to get a print i would call successful. Any help would be really appreciated!
