From that point you can close the software to no ill effect. The question is will the printer respond to commands from the serial connection while it's printing. I have been unable to do so, yet.

from the computer.  I've set up a wifi print hub, added a camera
to monitor.  That's great, but it would be nice to be able to pause
or stop the print from my pc. 

I'm not tech. savy enough myself, but I'm sure someone is.
