Yes Inventwill import a stp file.

I was thinking of using Cubify Design it is $199.

design is more like what I have used in the past. the biggest advantage to design is you can create assemblies from parts and it will create 2-d drawings from a 3d model and you can create a 2d drawing if you want to or need to .
tin

I don't think Alibre has ever imported STL anyway. I use a $60 program called InStep by Solveering to convert STL mesh to STP solid, then import that. Can Cubify import STP, or does it only open its own format? STL to solid isn't a simple thing, and the STL needs to be very clean.

As many know a couple years ago Alibre Cad was purchased by 3D systems. Shortly after purchase the product was repackaged relabeled upgraded etc. the hobby level products became the cubify line of products and the professional level products became geomagic. I was a licensed user of the Alibler products at the hobby level.
I decided to download the cubify invent $50 free trial. Pretty much what I expeted . Easy to use for someexperenced with the product line . And I expected less tools and options vs the $300 per year Geomagic. One surprise that I did not expect. This software will not import an STL file REALY????!!! the normal output file is a fun file and you can export as and .stl so you can create a file to print with but you can not edit an stl . Even FREE CAd will import an stl. tomorrow I will run a test and see how the printer software handles files generated by this program.
Tin
